... was with new owner kindly dropping me back home.

20-months and 20,000 km of fun and totally fault free ownership :nogarors4:

Have been super impressed by the cars performance and interior/exterior quality. Only criticism would be in the suspension department, which on 19"s would occasionally draw a grimace over speed bumps, but nothing too tragic :playful:

Was planning to run it in parallel with my new car, but truth be told, the temptation to fall back on the S3 would have inevitably led to far less use of the GT.

Anyhow, thanks to everyone that contributes to this great forum and I'm sure there will be another Audi in my future :hi:

You're not wrong, I've parted with many nice cars... but I'm a little choked TBH.

Pics of the new'un below..... some will think I'm just talking daft, but the S3 was just so hassle free and very much an over-performer in terms of the ownership experience.

I love the new car, but still need to wrap my head around the change .... still feels a bit like this when I take it out :scared2:

Thanks, S3 is a great all round package - no question. Sad fact is that not only did I love it, but the missus started using it instead of her new car.... it was too versatile for its own good in the end :blownose:

It is a looker and I'm happy with how the black/silver exterior came together.

Thanks Jassy, it does draw a bit of attention and make quite a racket in the process :sadlike:

@xBox so I'm curious why did you go with the Merc over staying within the VAG family and getting a 911?

The 911 leaves me a little cold, compared to the AMG GT, which is remarkably exotic and bespoke in comparison.

IMO, the AMG GT isn't just another Merc.

AMG GT....is a German version of an American Muscle Car..l have yet to see one on the road... where you see.....plenty of 911's on the roads driven by dentists and lawyers, a 911 is a clinical car for clinical people now, hence most are in metallic Grey lol

That is an absolutely banging upgrade. You have good taste. How does the merc's interior stack up against the S3? Is the merc quite well insulated in terms of tyre noise etc?

All very true, but I think it also has a twist of E-type flair and extravagance, in addition to v8 grunt and twin-blower rush!

There's a lot of noise going on and with only 500km (most pretty much with the hammer down), I can't say for certain.

In terms of quality, its quite remarkable, but then every component was purpose built, rather than being shared from another version.

Thank you - I fancied a classic interior, which kinda dictated the exterior colour.

Its full upgraded leather everywhere, which came out well, as it included alcantara headlining (aways wanted, but would never spec extra) and ambient lighting (ILP).

Very nice and thanks for the insight. Did you look at all at the F-Type SVR? I know they're pretty heavy though; no idea what the GT weighs. And of course they're still not as bespoke given especially now the I4 version that'll be kicking around shortly.

Nice car but what made you go for that? What was your criteria other than "an awesome car?"

thats a really nice new car @xBox (understatement)....a proper f****y magnet! :hubbahubba:
I'm sure when you drive back from selling the S3 you'll be like this :sob: though lol

Performance aside, I didn't feel anything could get close to the bespoke feel.... unless the budget increased significantly.

Example, check the CF trim around the air vents....

Thanks and a good question, for what was a little torturous..... in order of importance:

1) Reliability - didn't want to buy an expensive headache, or increase that risk more than necessary
2) Charismatic engine/exhaust and delivery - v10 R8 was seriously in with a shout, but attracts +€42k of CO2 duty (yes, €42,000 extra!!!!! for 272gms)
3) Looks and wow factor

...... oh and it had to have been in one of the F&F films

Thats about it in a nutshell, so I ended up with what I would call a "super GT" :readit: It is quite practical, so I'm hoping its breath of talents will increase usability, as I didn't want a garage queen.

Thanks, its definitely not a supercar, but the straigh-line performance is on par with a junior.
