January this year I finally bought an Audi S4 in Ibis white black edition on 27k miles having come from a 500+bhp BMW 335i. I spent some time looking for a low mileage car with the right spec including Supersport seats, B&O, 19" Peelers, ADS and sports diff before settling on a Ibis white black edition.

Audi S4
So far I have remoced the rear S4 and wing badges and changed the front and rear Audi rings to gloss black ones. The car has also been lowered 40mm on H&R springs and 10mm spacers fitted all round yo get the car sitting right.

Yesterday the car went to MRC Tuning in BanbSry for their Stage 2 package comprising of MRC Filter, MRC Pulley, MRC Hi Grip Belt, Silicon Intake Pipe, Modified airbox and MRC Stage 2 Remap along with STronic gearbox map. I have two frineds who both have MRC Stage2 Audi S4's one of which also bought their car along for a map tweak due to having test pipes fitted and a gearbox map update.

We arrived early at 8am and the guys at MRC worked theit magic and the car was finished just after lunctime. I can't recomend MRC Tuning enough their knowledge of these cars is second to none and their stage2 package & STronic map totally transforms the car. The final result was 475ps and 589nm the power is instantly on tap, smooth and torquey with super quick gear changes.

Clearly missed the power of the 500bhp 335i

Great numbers, car must be an animal now

Yes the standard S4 felt quite sluggish and slow in comparison, in the real world the BMW was only faster over 100mph where it would walk away from a Stage 2 S4. The MRC stage2 package & STronic map has transformed thet car.

Nice job, when I get round to it I'll be heading to MRC as my choice for a stage 2.

How do you think it compairs to the 500bhp 335i now ? A few people at my work have them and rave about them

lovely S4 in the best colour too ;)

The 335i is a torque monster which pulls well from low down and is very tuneable with lots of potential, responding well to a few modifications and 400+ bhp is easily achieved. Although they do suffer from turbo waste gate rattle issues and any work the turbos or downpipes is a real PITA! Mine was about 550bhp/550lbft with hybrid turbos, custom mapping and meth etc.
In the real world the S4 stage 2 is easier to drive and puts its power down better. From the lights the S4 is away first mainly due to the quattro and the STronic gearbox and below 100mph there is nothing between them only as the speed climbs would the BMW walk away depending on its spec.
The beauty of the S4 stage 2 is that with minimal mods, intake & pulley and remap it is comparable to other cars like the 335i which need lots more modification hardware installed such as downpipes, intercooler, charge pipe, dv's, inlets and mapping etc.

Tried to fit my springs today, but gave up due to the number of control arms.

Question: does lowering the car affect the dynamic suspension in terms of the installation. Will it fuq it up?

My friend fitted mine at his garage, the rear is easy but the front is a little tricky, it's easier to unbolt the top control arms from the chassis rather than the upright as the long bolt is usually seized or snaps.
I used H&R springs their designed to work with the ADS and work perfectly. I noticed the slightly firmer right straight away but it was exactly what I was looking for. The car prob took 3weeks/500miles of mixed driving to settle properly.

Will fire it in a local garage to fit

As said springs won't effect it if your keeping the same shocks, I also removed the control arms at the chsssis end after hearing a lot of stories about snapped bolts and fitted 40mm h&rs with no problems

My brother in law came across the issue of the alloy bolts which are fitted to some unit near the top. They need hit applied and also he was afraid of sheering something lower down.

That's interesting to read. I'm off to MRC this week to finally make my S5 what I wanted it to be when I bought it. I had discounted both a TTRS and a Nissan GT-R for practicality reasons, and also a BMW due to RWD. Although I never had a test drive of an M3, I have been a passenger in one being launched and its rear wheels wanted to beat the front wheels in a race. That put me off, in addition to the endless videos on YouTube of BMW drivers losing control. But I often wonder if a tuned M3 or 335i might have been a better option. However your comments put those thoughts to rest - especially as I am not interested in speeds over 100mph.

The M3 is no doubt a better handling car and def more suited to track use. A stock S4, stock 335i and stock M3 are pretty comparible with similar torque figures and with the M3 walking away due to its extra bhp as the speed increases. Once tuned its a different matter, the S4 and 335i are much easier and cheaper to tune than the M3 and then the tables soon turn in their favour. The only real option for the M3 is to go supercharged but that incures a heafty £10K bill! GTR's are great but expensive and if your spending that much money your options increase dramatically and you can start to consider things like an R8 or RS6/7

Latest mod completed has been the cooling system separation utilising a BMW power steering reservoir to separate the charger cooling system as my car has a single cooler informs of the radiator. Making the bracket took more time than anything, and it was finished off with an Audi OE power steering cap.

Next up is to upgrade the front brakes. I've got a set of Brembo 6pots from an Audi S8 2016 which utilises a 398mm x 38mm disc. These don't fit under the 19" peelers so After an initial trial fit the brackets need machining down a little and then utilise a RS6 390mm front disc and RS5 lines.

Curious about this, never seen anything like this done with the standard cooler. What are the benefits?

Google it there's several threads about it. Just means the intercooler cooling is separate from the engine cooling system. It's a cheap mod for road use without the expense and hassle of going to a large & expensive cooler package.

Have you looked at this thread http://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...er-Cylinder-Upgrade-for-Big-Brake-Kits-Thread ?

RS5 master cylinder into S4 B8 (not B8.5) brake booster to help address imbalances from big brake kits

I had a similar experience when I fitted 4 pot RS3 calipers to be A3 3.2 the pedal feel was poor and the performance wasn't great. Some people suggested fitting a bigger cyclinder but actually the issue was the brake pads, fitted a set of DS2500's and pedal feel was so much better. I've got the RS5 calipers and I'm going to change to DS2500s which should improve the feel, not that it's too bad

DS2500's are very good but pricey. I'm going to initially try some Pagid or ATE pads. I have a friend with a 390mm RS6 6pot set up using Pagid pads and he reports no problems what so ever.

The front brake upgrade was fitted last night along will new standard discs and pads on the back and the brake fluid changed to Dot5.1. The brackets required machining 4mm on one surface and 6mm on the other. The calipers themselves also needed "shaving" a little as they were just fouling the wheel, it was a little trial and error to see how much needed to be removed to gain the little clearance needed. The brake lines were replaced with RS5 brake lines as these are approx 4" longer.

Monster stoppers though :)
Nicely done

Made myself a strut brace today only took less than an hour start to finish, got the idea from the CR-15 brace

Gear changes certainly feel better and smoother, I would def recommend one as a cheap mod that only take minutes to fit

Well the car is going on the Dyno again this Friday this time a Dyno Dynamics Dyno @ EngineTuner in Plymouth along with two other Stage2 S4's so will see what results will get ;) as different dynos do read slightly differently.

Wish i wasn't working on friday, I live in Plymouth, would have swung by to meet a few more fellow s4 owners!
