So I'm not new to Audi's by any stretch as I've currently got a 3.0 b6 Quattro sport, and I just sold my b6 S4 as I wasn't a fan and I've had a few b5's in different guises.
So sold the b6 s4 and got this little gem...

Mechanically it seems superb, pulls very well indeed, it's already had RS4 turbo's and manifolds with the invoice from Quattro sport to prove it.
The body isn't bad but that'll be re done with time!
The interior on the other hand is in a bit of a state! So that'll need changing out at some point!
Debating of leaving it as it is etc, but what would it map to as it is, basically standard car apart from the turbos and maifolds! All advise and suggestions welcome

RS4 turbos on a stock map isnt a good idea! the standard injectors just cant flow enough fuel and you risk melting things...

With some injectors, and a decent tune, you;ll see high 300's. Add Downpipes and an exhaust and you'll see 400-450ish depending on what other bits it has.

Sorry, I should have been more specific, it's had turbos, manifolds, down pipes, injectors and a map to suit by Quattro sport, the invoice is for just over £4.5k I'm debating on pushing it further or am I better leaving it as it is?

theres certainly more you can do, but ofcourse it all costs.

On an RS4 engine, the standard turbos can achieve about 500hp with the right bolt on bits. The S4 engine is more restrictive, but might to high 400's is doable with the right parts before getting into major surgery.

Ideally, you want to get the car to someone like Unicorn or MRC for a bit of a health check. Figure out exactly what the car has on it, what power its making, is the current map decent and maximising whats there, or is it leaving a lot on the table, and finally what other mods would be required to take it further.

That way you know where you stand, what it will cost to take it up a notch etc.

Well, I've managed to find myself another interior as mine is a little worse for wear which I pick up next week so I'm chuffed with that! Looking forward to putting it in! Half black leather and half noggy suede, sadly standard seats and not recaro but they are super mint!
Then over the next week or two I'm going to take it to work and set about it!

So today my pedal turned up from TPS, mine was missing the hinge pedal bit and it made the throttle feel horrid!
And amazingly, it took all of 5 minutes to change the whole pedal!

Basically it pops off from the plastic hinge bit half way up the pedal, pop the rubber connecting bar off and that's it! It's out!

What made you sell the s4 ? Whilst I am fan of the b5 platform I find my b6 s4 very easy to live with and it has a chassis far superior to the b5 s4 ! Also with a 3" dual exhaust and keeping the stock valved backboxes I find it very easy to live with: loud on Wot and civilised round town and on a cruise ! Also the remap and piggy back delete did make a big difference however fuel bills are rather high if you stamp the go pedal.

Few things really, I've got a b6 3.0 which I use daily anyway and a c5 S6 avant, I prefer the shove of turbos, and for me personally I was scared to death of the chains! Every time you turn the key is like Russian roulette and should something happen, it wouldn't be economical to repair it so it'd be thrown away, and lastly.... I hated the colour!

Nice build man always a fan of noggy avants

Hi mate, I got it from TPS, it was £70 inc the vat fits in minutes, it's nice having a new pedal the the hinge part (that your foot touches) is so smooth now! You can get them 2nd hand. I can sort you the part number if you like.

So been awhile but I've been slowly showing the S4 some love... Here is how it currently looks now...

Headlights lacquered
A good flat and a polish
Refurbed the face of the wheels
Good clean inside

looking tidy. I do like nogaro blue!

The only thing thats stuck out to me in both pics is the paint damage on the offside grille surrround in the bumper.

So spent some time over the last few days cleaning the seats as it looked like someone had died in there! So after some proper leather cleaner and some treatment this is the results so far...

Nice. Get some brushed aluminium roof rails on it. Power wise, stay with what you've got. If you're keen to spend cash, then renew genuine shocks and suspension (Meyle HD) otherwise enjoy.

A b5 s4 even with k03 turbos, fmic, decat and good exhaust with a remap would sit about 300-315 bhp and would make the b6 s4 feel like a one litre fiesta.

You say that, but not really...

Heres a little graph i put together comparing some typical engines:

2016-10-10%2009_43_56-Clipboard.png

Now sure, the Stage 1 S4 is the car with the most power, but the V8 is a solid second place and doesnt fall on its face at high RPM's like the S4 does.

Torque does the talking. B5 s4 saloon with 315bhp run about 4.9sec 0-60 and avants about 5.2secs. I was going to trade the Leon in for a 2.8v6 4motion at one point but changed my mind after the test drive. It only picked up it's heels at about 4000rpm and felt slower than the Leon with 165bhp originally a 110bhp tdi. The 4motion was undoubtedly quicker but felt well slow. I had a 2.5v6 mondeo as well which only picked up it's heels at 4500rpm and my 6k2 3dr Ibiza with a 1.4mpi engine feels sharper. I would imagine the 4.2litre v8 would feel the same way.

It's all about the perseption of the acceleration and it's rate of change and the drivers preference. I love torque and loadsa torque and the b5 s4 is hard to whack.

Well I've got my replacement EGT boards coming from Poland which should land any time now! I'm more tempted to agree with Spartacus68 and keep the engine stock, I want to sort the suspension and brakes etc, have it riding like a much newer car! If I'm the long run I fancy more bhp, then maybe! But for now, WHEELS!!

Definitely sort suspension and brakes before going for more power. I've got Bilstein PSS9 coilovers and Brembo 18Z brakes on my S4 and it totally transformed it for the better. The stock brakes just feel unsafe. Now that its got some proper anchors, it gives me a lot more confidence in it. It can actually stop now.

Sids EGT boards are good. If your car is like mine and has the EGTs on each side of the engine, I'd suggest leaving them bolted in place while trying to pop off the covers with a screwdriver. It made it so much easier for me. Pop off the cover and then unbolt them to solder in the new boards.

I'm surprised the standard s4 are so rubbish but if that's straight from the horses mouth then it's a bit of a waste of time fitting them to my 1.8t c5 Quattro. They're bound to be better than 312mm setup with a fast road pads and goodridge hoses?

As said above the standard S4 brakes are awful, even the b5 RS4 brakes aren't that good, I recently removed RS4 front brakes with yellow stuff pads from my S4 in favour of 18z setup and the difference is incredible!

I think half my problem was the yellow stuff pads, I couldn't recommend them to anyone as you need a lot of heat in them to get the use of them, not just in the S4 but a few other cars I've had them in, all were replaced with ds2500's, a little dusty but work well from cold

Its a lot of effort changing the uprights etc to swap from the 312 to 320mm S4 brakes.

The S4 calipers are also pretty horrible.

If you do go that route, then instead of S4 calipers, get yourself some of the Allroad/B7 style calipres instead. Still uses the same 320x30 disk and they are dirt cheap on ebay, but much better caliper design than the S4 ones.

I would avoid them. As Aragorn said, some B7 A4 2.0T calipers would be better and still use the same discs.

Another bigger option would be B6 S4 brakes. They use a 345mm disc and large single pot caliper. I'm putting a set of them on my A4 soon. They would be a fair bit more costly than the B7 A4 brakes though. A lot of people actually put them on their B5 S4s if they want to keep the option of having 17 inch alloys. 18Zs don't alloy for any 17 inch alloys, although I think there are very small amount of exception.

Oh dear, I already got a set of b5 s4 calipers a while ago but haven't got the up rights just yet. If the 18z fit under 18" fat fives then that would do the dab. It was an impulse buy as they were £55 for the pair and in good condition. Can't believe the weight of them though. Don't need to go the the gym anymore just curl and bench press the calipers lol.

Cheers for the advise.

I'll have a pair of S4 front uprights for sale cheap in a couple weeks once I've swapped to the alloy ones

So, my replacement egt boards came from Poland and I've got to say, for £63 delivered for two boards they are a bargain! Got the swapped over, all soldered in and the difference in the car is night and day!
Also managed to get these....

So hopefully get them all refurbed at work this week and get them on! I'm thinking about an anthracite colour? What's people's opinions? Saw this and liked them...

Although I may go a shade lighter? Can't decide!

What would a diamond cut face with gunmetal grey inlays look like? Other than that standard avus silver or whatever name the standard silver is. But definitely a lighter shade of grey if that was what you were going for.

See your point dude but diamond cutting never lasts! Yeah I did think about silver but it's just silver! Or I've got a set of bbs ch I can put on?

What do the bbs ch look like?

Ok, seen them and yes they look nice. I also think they would look good in a light alicantara colour. The classic bbs look class on the s4 and rs4 when spaced right and the car is sitting well but they are a pain to keep clean.

What about a blue fleck through the alcantara on the avus wheels? If it was subtle it would give them a bit of pop without looking naff.

Think I'm going to be dull and go with silver! Ordered a few more bits, set of H&R coilovers, retrimmed B5 flat bottom, all my timing belt kit, new expansion bottle, thermostat, new rad, so when I pull the front off I can do it all in one go!

Sounds good, let me know what the coil overs are like when you get them in please. I know I have a c5 but should give me an idea.

Silver will look good with Noggy blue.

You may as well change the fuel filter and the gearbox and diff oil, unless you have service history which shows they were done recently.

My S4 had none so it was better to be safe than sorry in my mind. Don't forget to swap out your air filter and cabin filter too.
