Today car started making an awful grinding chattering noise from the gear box felt very strong on the clutch pedal, instant thought is clutch dmf as I pulled over, switched her off.. Waited a bit and switched it back on, instantly heard again but then quiet until I revved, so got her towed to an indi pending them opening again on Tuesday (****** bank holiday!!) (thank God for Rac cover!!)
Towed on hook and didn't hear it then so hopefully means not gear box.

What sort of price have have you paid for clutch + dmf replacements? Curious of the damage to my purse

Got a mates rates on parts but still that's 550 for a LUK kit not Inc the labour :s eeeeep
2.0tdi 170cr

Seen the kits on eBay from GSF for about £450 just over for sach ones. At mates rate my Audi tech friend said £200 to fit it.

What mileage are you at?

Dmfs don't usually make a grinding sound. Could be one of the pressure plate springs has broken and is rubbing. This seems to happen a lot with sachs clutches on transverse engines.

Ah that's really good to know thankyou :) that's better than his price! fitting wont be mates rates sadly, just the parts from my friend who works in a parts place. He has a Sach acount and is checking Wednesday.

Yeah sounded like grinding in the cabin, but when I oppened bonnet sounded like loud chattering, the revs didn't drop or raise, just terrible noise and didn't wan't to risk more damage. 125k on the clock plus tuned properly only 2k ago.. It was definately borrowed time lol

Ah just had a look and they don't include the dmf, price I got is kit and dmf :(
Hopefully when it's looked at it may be something smaller!

Not surprised this has happened with your driving , lol .

What torque is it putting out ?

What you trying to say?!
Not sure, it was due rolling road eeeep
After new parts and a few months of rice and water I might have enough to get some figures

But it was tearing up the tires and lots of torque steer since its bobby treatment :p and that was with bobby dialing the torque down pending a new clutch

I've no idea what torque figure a new standard clutch could handle for years without bother .

A Sachs SRE organic for yours can handle 550+Nm , that's 406 lbft and Bobby could dial in all the torque you want and it will handle it for years .

Or be extremely long-term reliable as it is , you don't want to have it done twice .

How are these to live with? I thought they are stiffer on the pedal than standard

I would just fit a new sachs/Luk clutch and dmf.
They handle 500nm without much hassle (depending on clutch condition etc).

Then we can fit a 4bar map sensor and push some more torq :)

Hi I've got a A4 B8 2.0 diesel, just happened today when started the car.... a grinding noise when foot is on clutch..... other than that car drives ok and car goes into gear ok t0o just the grinding from clutch when go to change gear..... I'm no car expert, does this sound like a new DMF(I'm assuming a DMF is new clutch a flywheel kit?) Also if i drive with it can i do it a lot more damage?

Mine isdmf and clutch sadly, but was grinding even when gear wasn't engaged.
I don't know personally, but I would not drive it incase when it goes it takes gear bits with it, scares me it is all linked.

Another kind friend got me the dmf, release bearing, bolts and clutch kit cheaper, 475 eeeek that's all sach's parts too.
Cheapest garage could do for parts only as 770 (not including labour at this point) so pleased with that. Goes up tomo and should be ready Thursday, poor car

I had to ask a friend what a 4 bar map sensor was :p
How much boost you wanna squeeze!! :)
am i on max 2 Bar boost currently and is that the stock bar reading limit?

Man audi really made these parts expensive! Garage seemed open to a better deal in cash, will see what the bill looks like but they are good guys and don't generally rip off..
Think I will be all in at the price you paid too

had a quick chat and negotiated another 100 off the labour.
It took them 10 hours, however very interestingly, when i called Audi they said the 2.0TDI's have a special clutch service regardless of warentee where the cost of new clutch and labour is discounted to set price of only £799 (usually £1600).
Wish i had known that instead of driving round for parts at discount!

On another note, clutch feels like a feather and doesnt judder atall pulling off, both of which its been like since i bought it 4+ years ago at 80k :)
But i am noticing 5th gear is notchy to get into and taking a few attempts, not sure if this is a bedding in type thing but otherwise feels very lovely, much better than it has felt since I have owned it :)

when i had a donking noise at low speeds it was a flat spot on my tyre if that gives you a bit of hope

Yes it does give me hope :)
All have excessive camber wear, might have to fork for some new tyres or get my winters on that have new Michelins on
