Hey guys

I fitted my reverse cam and it had the issue with not working when the engine is on. So looking on the manufactures website they say to use a relay and give you this diagram;

So I've followed this diagram to the t. But to no luck is it powering the cam to turn on. I'm thinking it's the inline 5amp I have connected from the relay to the constant power?

Is this correct or do I need to wire this differently?

You got a multi meter to check for power ect :)

You get about as much as I do on forums ;)

Haha tell me about it!!

I don't unfortunately. How ever I do believe I don't need that amp In there. I did attach one of the scotch clips to the revers light wire, were as I didn't the first time so I'm going to try;

Removing the scratch clip as I think that's one of the problems.

Then remove that amp too. Then make sure everything is connected properly

It's always best to run a fuse

if need be you can make a test probe so to speak using a bulb and some wire that will soon show if power is there as it will light up it sounds to me like you don't have a good connection somewhere or possibly a dud Relay at the worst

check if ground of camera is connected, then the camera is operating on witch values? 5V or 12V? How much Current it consume?
However the relay is only as switch here, and the amp you saying is referred to Ampere (current) and the fuse (you calling it amp) if blown won't pass any electricity.

The camera runs on 12v

And I'll try what you suggested about the ground and fuse

IIRC

Red = reverse light live
Yellow = reverse camera +
Black = neg-

The system you made would probably work but do not connect the red wire in your diagram as the system gets its live from reverse light wire when you select reverse. In your diagram the system would have permanent live (which you don't want)

Hope this helps.

Sweet cheers buddy, that's much easier. Lol was pointless running wires through the car other than the video one.

Come Tuesday I'm ordering one

It's already set up with everything g run I g through like. And I'm sure the wireless ones have a delay when turning on.

Yeah they do but it's minimal. I hardly notice the difference.

Let us know how you get on with it.

Just see if the camera even works,bypass the relay and provide it with the required 12V

The reverse light you are wiring off is canbus and is unstable to power a reverse camera. This is why it does not work when the car is started.
Using the relay is the correct method. The relay is a electric switch, you use the reverse light to power the relay which switches the clean 12v to power the camera.

The drawing is slightly wrong, the clean fused 12v should be connected to "30" and the camera 12v connected to "87".

What screen and camera and you using? Is the screen switching when reverse is selected?

Not for something but to me seem to be a polarised capacitor in heat-shrink tube.

I think to say the same about "switch" but anyway, first step should be to attach it to some stable source of current like battery, then if working by stand alone and then check with relay attached. If it's problem when cranking the engine, capacitor in line will be like a temp. battery for cranking time.

Yeah the screen auto switches when in reverse.

So will the item shown on eBay work? As I've ordered it just in case.

And the wiring should be swapped between the 30 and 87?

If you ordered it already, install it and try. About the wiring, dunno where they goes so, w8 for other users.

I've been explained the wiring for the item I bought of eBay.

I was just clarifying the relay wiring from another rely on here. Seen as it's going to take a while to come I'll try reworking the relay just to see if that works

If your using the relay you do not need that signal filter from eBay.
Connect the camera direct to the battery or another known 12v that is NOT canbus (cigarette lighter etc) to make sure it's working. Let us know
If it's working that way you then know there's a Problem with the relay/wiring.
I take it you don't have access to a multimeter or a friend with one? Nice and easy to test this way

I don't have access to one unfortunately. It's already wired up to the cigarette lighter 12v. So I think the reason for it not working is what was pointed out to me; that the 87 and 30 need to be swapped.

I'm sure if that doesn't work then it's the relay it's self in that case I'll just use the signal filter as I know that way I wired it up in the first place before the relay did work; but not when the engine was running.

I'll update everyone when I try it tomorrow. How ever if it rains tomorrow it will have to be a dry day

ok so today i rewired the relay, and that did nothing; however, i installed that signal filter and it works! granted it has some lines on the screen when the engine is on but its usable.

if anyone know how to make these lines go away that would be helpful, otherwise i can live with it lol

can be the interference from power cable (if it's not screened), is some usb cables they using magnet as filter like in this photo the cylinder before the connector

The camera? If so it doesn't have a USB cable or cylinder on it like that.

I joined the negatives from the filter and the camera and that made it work. Wether I need to connect it to the reader light negative to help it?

Obviously you don't got the usb connector, my bad in syntax.
Anyway, If your cable is not screened (mean got some kinda of aluminium foil around it before the plastic wrap) CAN be the problem with interference, like when you got 2 radio stations with quite same frequencies. You can hear your radio station as well rumour from other radio station. The same is here, to prevent it, you normally use some filter, separator, on usb cables for example - usually on both ends - they use the magnets (LIKE THE ONE BEFORE THE CONNECTOR on image above) to screen( protect) the data cable from interference. In your case, this can work as well to get rid of the on-screen lines.

Just to let you see the difference;
Screened cable:

NOT Screened cable:

Magnet filter (better photo):
ZCAT2235-1030ABK.jpg

Ahhh cool! So I would just attach the Magnet filter to the end where all the wiring is connected to the reverse light?

Actually thinking about it....I think I saw one of the cables have one of them on it.

I think it was the video cable. I will have to have a look

Saying that though there isn't that many lines on the screen I'll take a picture tomorrow

Ok, just most of cables nowdays are screened, do you remember the times that someone was calling you at home and your speakers was doing strange rumours? is the same with video, but you got the lines instead. anyway as far as I know the best place to put the magnet is as near as possible to the radio.

Got some ordered so I'll put the on when they come. Cheers for the advise

I have wired camera up as this pic shows and all works fine except battery keeps going flat.
Any help please

You must have connected something to a wire that’s a “constant on” connection but saying that I’m sure the cam’s don’t use that much power.

what have you wired things up too?

from ignition switches live to relay pin 87. Camera to pin 30. Trigger wire to pin 86. Earth to pin 85 all working fine don't know why battery went flat

Also another image of this relay shows 12v live to pin 30 camera to pin 87 ???

I did t get mine to work when wiring it up. So I just lived with the display having a few lines of interference running down it .

I then moved from the Audi nav looking android headset to another one that was a 10.2” screen that stuck out like a mercs and the Interference wasn’t as bad.

I would say make sure that the wire isn’t a constant open ie from something that isn’t alway on through the battery?

If it’s a one off drain then may be it’s something else?

Thanks Adam. When I can get boot open will check this out.
Many thanks
