So looking to sell my manual 2.0tdi b8 A4 and get something more sporty and automatic.

Been looking at a few options but due to my budget I've had to rule out a few.

Im interested in the s3's and TTS's but the 8P S3 looks a little dated. I've also found a cabriolet s5 3.0 v6 which sadly is a Cat D and had been facelifted to a B8.5 but unsure on the soft top but I'd love the supercharged v6 noise especially over the 4 cylinder S3/tts. Also like the v8 s5s but again look a little dated and unsure on reliability.

What would you go for personally?

Cheers, James

V6 S5.....

But then I'm a little biased....

I am probably going for a 8V S3 next though. Will likely miss the V6 noise and the lovely sound proofed cabin, but unfortunately I need something smaller...

I do love the 8v s3 but unfortunately out of my budget. But your S5 is beautiful

Yea the 8Vs are still really expensive. Been looking at the market for a good few months now and still difficult to find a decent low mileage one for under £22k.

As much as I love the V8 S5, I've spent enough time on the A5OC forum to see that carbon build up and gearbox issues do seem to be an issue on high mileage ones. I would personally go for a B8 S5 Sportback if you wanted the V6 over the Cab...the roof is just another problem area to worry about...!

Yeah maybe in a year or so they will come down.

Ah right good to know. Yeah that's true. I have found a b8.5 sportback which is just within my budget but it's a Cat C so I think I'll have to give it a miss.

The 8p s3 is a good car. I got one and dont think it looks dated. Nice to drive and enought grunt.

Think it depends on the colour sometimes.
Any issues with yours?

Not had it long but i need to have the brake servo replaced which means the engine has to come out. You can tell by listening for a hissing noise from the brake pedal. Found this out yesterday.

Had a mk1 cupra r before this and the s3 is leagues ahead of the cupra.
Feels very refined and well built.

Little pic for you buddy.

Ah right good to know. My last two cars have been 2.0 diesels so I think any of my options above will feel 100x better and sportier than what I've got now.

id say V8 s5 or a B8 s4 if you could find one

Four cylinders just not enough. V6 or V8 all the way.

I noticed there was no S4 option, so I didn't vote as none of the above would find a place on my driveway. (That's just me).
Definitely agree, that once you've had a 6 cyl engine, it's very difficult to go back to a four pot.
S4 or RS3 for me next.

RS3 Jake, RS3; its 5-pot with 7-speed DSG - and you know my history - is an incredible power unit for road work.

Had mine for nearly 6-years now and it shares with our 4-pot TFSI DSG TT, and 4-pot twin-charge DSG A1 that you would not believe is 'charged' at all; but the RS3 is just something 'more' every time I take it out.

RS3 Jake, but not mine and it's mine for a few more years yet...

2010 S3 with 2013 S3 wheels and RS3 grille doesn't look dated :sunglasses:

Those wheels look spot on with the car! Go well with colour too. I am tempted by the s3 as it's the most friendly on my bank account and every time I see one fly past it sways me even more.

First choice is RS3, John.
I like the A3 platform, the size suits me and I was never a big car person.
If I find what I want, it will be for keeps......

100% agree, Jake, and for me the 8P RS3 does exactly that. Sampled a demonstrator at Stafford Audi, tried to order one, did next best and found one, and bought it; all in 3-days;and I've no reason to change - having road and track driven 8V S3 (neighbour has one), TTRS plus, RS4, S5, RS6, RS7 (love it), S8 and R8 V10 plus - even now; I think the RS3 a cracking all weather motor car.

It's funny; I feel almost exactly the same, but in reverse, about the S4.

I've never been a small car person, I like more space than I need. The A4 platform suits me and the S4 variant is so perfect for my needs and wants that it's as if, to recall an old Jeremy Clarkson line, someone at Audi had my photo on their desk and said to his (or her) colleagues "let's build that bloke a car".

I too love the S4 but preferring a smaller car as I do - having driven 2-seat Lotus Europa and Elan for 39-years - I find the A3 platform just right; a 3-door 8L S3 with all of the RS3 drive train and brakes would be just perfect for me.

Happy days... X Sprint Barmouth :racer:

Totally understand that, I'm not saying I couldn't love an S4, because I know I would.
I just need to exorcise the RS demons.

And that's exactly how it should be. After all, the original poll didn't ask which was the best car. It asked what car we'd go for. :)

Change of plan and budget now.

Just got a new job so can spend a little more now. Even considering leasing from a dealer.

My commute is much much longer now so fuel economy is slightly more important now.

Options are;
A6 3.0tdi Quattro s tronic saloon...
Audi S3 8v pfl s tronic...
Audi s5/4 b8/b8.5 3.0 supercharged stronic...
Maybe even consider an 8p rs3 if I can find one to my liking within budget...
