so just a quick one! I am probably removing my front bumper in a few weeks whilst it's of is it worth doing anything with the intercooler? I have read stuff with people draining them off etc!

I have a 2.0tdi so I believe there is just one on the front passenger side.

Thoughts on weather I should do this! If so is it simple to remove! And is there anything else I should look at whilst at this stage.

Cheers

Worth having a look for sure.

With Marine engines we ultrasonically clean them every 6000 hrs or so. But they aren't worked so hard in a car in someways I suppose!

I done mine and it transformed the car

Is yours a 2.0tdi?
If so then yes same car, just take off the 2 intercooler pipes the top and bottom, the intercooler itself is only 'popped' into position and held by three plastic lugs to just push it from the bottom to free it from these then lift it out towards you. It's kind of fiddly especially putting it back in and the plastic lugs can break as it happened me on my passat (same sort of setup) just take your time and don't overly force it.

My description of it will hopefully make more sense whenever your actually looking at it in front of you but that's what I done and it was only 3-4 weeks ago.

What should or shouldn't come out of it! And what is the effect on draining it

It's normal for some oil to come out, anything else alarm bells should start ringing as there shouldn't be anything in it.

On mines there was bits of the turbo turbine as it had went bang.

Just means it's clean and doesn't restrict the air flowing through it and means the air will be cleaner.

To clean it out I covered the bottom hole and filled it with petrol and shook it about then drained and left it to dry.
