Is the RS3 Quattro a Haldex system?

I currently have an S3 and going to that from a 3.2 A4 I notice the Haldex quattro system isn't quite as reliable. I am considering going for a facelift RS3 at some point and was just wandering if the RS3 uses Haldex or is it full-time quattro? Also, how does the suspension compare on the RS3 compared to the bouncy suspension on the S3?

Still haldex as its still the same MQB platform vehicle.

I thought Haldex was reliable enough, but if you're going new then you'll have years of manufacture warranty so it wouldn't put me off.

I didn't mean reliable as in it was going to fail, I meant that the full time quattro in the A4 seemed to perform better.

Ah, I see. Well put it this way, Autocar tested a Golf R against all kinds of cars (including Nissan GT-R's) and it beat them all on the wet weather testing at MIRA. I reckon it's very good. And it launches like no other.

I just seem to get hit with the TCS a lot more than I ever did in the old A4 and not when I am gunning it either

According to this German review, the Haldex in the facelift RS3 has been given new software which reacts proactively all the time unlike Haldex of past where it only reacted if there was slip. Which is why this car now oversteers in corners.

That does sound like it will be neat :-D

I know what you mean. My Golf R never had the TC kick in and it was modified too! I put it down to the Pirelli's on the RS3 or possibly a more aggressive power delivery.

I recall in the S3 8v forum the other year, someone was stating that the Haldex hardware (5th Gen?) was different. No pump present to build up pressure or something. Anyways, the upshot was a slightly longer delay before it kicked in. Not sure how perceivable it would be but the Volvo forums were rife with complaints (the Swedes getting more snow I suspect).

second hand info but may explain why the TC kicks in more.

No bouncy suspension over here and not heard of any RS3 owners with it either.

Ps perhaps it's cars without mag ride? My wife has S3 saloon (mag ride as standard) and it doesn't bounce either.

How do you find the S3 compares to the RS3? Obviously the engine is the big difference, but anything else majorly different?

Night and day difference. The S3 is fast don't get me wrong but they go about their business in different ways. Put it this way the wife described the RS3 as "mental" when she first went out in it!

The biggest engine in a A3 model can be mental to a person who isn't used to the power and vice versa a person who have driven different fast motors don't think it is. Everyone has to find their own level to joy and its all fine :).

I also think Haldex is superb solution without the all time real quattro which I had on earlier cars with different other problems. This is a fwd/rwd with possibility to awd, awesome and best of everything.

It was the noise rather than power ;)

Yeah, but both sound and power is mental to a common A3 owner :)
