Time for a build thread....big turbo

Drip feed continues....

More turbo related goodness....

Angled compressor outlet to fit under the car...

Boost tap in compressor outlet for wastegate control....plus view of new HTA compressor wheel.

Lowered A/r turbine housing...was 0.82 and now 0.64....

I have been born and become a grandad in the time this build has been going.
Looks like it will be a serious piece of kit though.I wish I could do this and write such a good thread.
The best thread on here by far.

All compliments gratefully received....

I have a feeling that by the time the car gets back to me that I'll either be too old and scared to drive it,or they'll cremate me in it......if it doesn't cremate me on it's own.

It was quick, but I hope it ends up being just the right side of scary.

Mines stage 1 unicorn motor developments 318 bhp 347 Ft.lbs and I think mines quick.I made a mistake buying a manual or I would have gone stage 2+ straight away as I don't really want to spend on a clutch so I think stage 1 is my limit on this car anyway.

Upgrade your suspension and brakes, and enjoy your S3. Peak power figures is for pubs, what's important is if you enjoy driving your car

I bought the RS3 Andy converted (650bhp+) and I'm sure yours will be similar to that so yes I think it will be scary (I spend more time Driving like Miss Daisy lol)

I thought there were only three speeds:
Fast
Very fast
Oh ****!

Surely it's only fast enough if you say Oh sh*t! LOL!

Just so you know....I said I'd not modify another car after my Escort.

Look how well that idea held up.

I know one of Andy's customers asked to have it turned down a bit.

Given it's a bit lighter after what I've torn out of it(and forgetting the ballast behind the wheel) it should top 450bhp/tonne which would be fun.

I'm sure I've said this before.... the older I get,the faster I was.

What I've loved about this is finding out how many other daft folk there are out there.

Hi Karl.....I wish relativity worked that way for me....I think I'd benefit from a bit of time warp.....

You'll have to go faster Alex :p ....
OR...

Live in the ISS, don't people in space age slower than everyone else on the earth?

Things are progressing.....parts coming together slowly.

Engine and gearbox have found their way back into the chassis.

And I thought my rate of progress was bad :p

I'm glad your car is coming back together again!

Mine managed to have a tiguan shift lever spawn into it - what a ballache! most of the exhaust had to come off for that

I'm testing mine tomorrow to see if it works - this should be interesting, then if it does I've got to wrestle the transfer box in between the engine and subframe!

Good luck with that.

I'm sure Andy and everyone at Storm will be glad to get mine out the doors.

True to form, this car never submits to mods without a fight.

Some of the pipes need modifying as the main boost pipe is rubbing on the fan assembly slightly.

Watch this space.....

Can't wait to see this once it's done

Are you going to attempt at run down the pod with the new gear box setup?

Thank you

I'm never sure about drag runs especially on a new setup so let me think on that.
After nearly a year I can't afford to have any breakages!

I would be interested to see what it would run though, plus there isn't really anywhere else where you can test acceleration to 100+ mph.

That's right.....I'd prefer rolling starts and in gear acceleration as a better reflection of "normal" conditions, but let's see.
The weakest areas now would likely be driveshaft doughnuts etc,and that's now mostly new RS parts, and I haven't seen the car for 10 mths, let alone driven it!

I am sure it will be worth the wait though - at least you have a car to wait for, I am currently commuting to work in a 1.4 TDCi Fiesta and no other cars at the moment *sigh*.

How's it going?

Enjoying it I'm sure ....

Well i'm a bit just enjoying driving it after almost 3 months. Feels much better, it feels like brand new car, normal driving is perfect, incredible, no issues shifting into 1st and 2nd! I'm again in love with my car. It allows shifting at 7k rpm but still isn't perfect, my cable end links seems to be worn so have to look into that. Will probably get new ones or diesel geek shifter which eliminates plastic bits. Hope i'll sort those things soon. But overall very positive feel.
I'll update my thread with pics and little write up when i get more time.

Just had another quick chat with Andy.

Work is progressing, and the DSG wiring, steering module and a few other bits are being done.

The MAF looks like being discarded, and the engine will be run using another strategy on the Syvecs.

All slowly coming together....

Are you going to relocate the battery at all for more engine space?

Not on the to-do list, and the WMI pump is located in the rear battery well.

What I'm not sure of is whether or not that will still be needed,as Andy wasn't convinced he'd need to run it at all.

What WMI are you running? Planning to just use the windscreen washer bottle for my WMI tank as its been done by many others - using the winter screenwash mix which has 30% meth in the blend, would just need a pump and not need to faff around fitting another tank!

Its an AEM system.
Dedicated tank etc in the boot of the car,and controller in the front.

Ah ok, might go with a Devilsown kit when I do need to go with WMI, did you go with a single point injection or are you going to run 4 nozzles in the intake manifold?

It was single point via a BSH throttle body pipe, which comes plumbed for WMI.
That injects beneath the butterfly, which is a potential problem as the butterfly is made of ABS,which can harden and become brittle when exposed to methanol.

Having said that,it wasn't ever a problem on mine......

The alternative would be the HEP manifold which can run both fuel port injectors and WMI port injectors.....I've got the Boulekos manifold which has ports for fuel injectors but not WMI ports.
Sequential WMI requires either the type of ECU I've got,or Aquamist's system which is pretty costly and needs a fair bit of setup to run that sort of thing.
