Just to put into perspective how good the A4 B9 is. Now I know comparing a fast estate to my car is a bit off but I'm talking about what you get for your money.

My car list price was £34k ish, It's an SE Ultra 150 TDI with a lot of extras on it (ex launch car), anyway basic price for the car is £30,200.
My friend has bought a Seat Leon Cupra estate (great looking car) for £31250 and my findings as a passenger is this:
  • Although very quick, not overly exciting.
  • Handles very well.
  • Wind noise horrendous above 70mph.
  • Road noise terrible above 70mph.
  • Plastic were ok no where near an Audi trim.
  • Dash looked very old and drab.
  • Kit was pretty good.
  • Paint on the car thin.
  • Space in the car slightly disappointing.
I did ask for his forgiveness as this is what I told him. So as the title states I'm REALLY appreciative of my Audi A4 and I don't think I would have anything else.
You pays your money and you takes your choice.

I think you'd be better off comparing the leon with the same class of car, which would be the A3, not the A4. Even then the leon cupra does come with a load of kit that, with an audi, would cost you a great deal more. I am not sure but I think your friend will also have the old cupra model, not the new one due out soon, thus it will be an older car than your A4 is in terms of manufacturing.
I guess its down to the old saying, you pay your money you make your choice and if your friend is happy with his purcase then fair enough.
But in appreciation of the A4, I am very happy with mine and feel I have made the right choice compared to other cars in the same class..

Its about time members were commenting on some favourable aspects of the A4.There are so much trivial gripes posted here i wonder if some are posted for no real reason at all.
The A4 is class leading in almost all areas, and i have found it to be pretty much the best all round executive quality car ive been in ,,,,period.:sentimental:

I think most people enjoy their cars a lot, it's just that when things (however small) go wrong it is annoying - also there is plenty of collective intelligence on here which is ideal for solving the majority of problems!

Just off outside to wash the motors ready for the first long journey in the B9 which I :sparklingheart:

I don't come on here much, but after reading posts like this I feel that some are being very unfair to members that are having problems with their cars. Those that have no problems are the lucky ones and maybe not give the members who are having problems such a hard time.

I wonder if the members who are complaining about the moaning would appreciate the same responses if it was them who were having issues....

I don't have any issues with my car, but I feel those who come on here looking for help only to be told they're a bunch of moaning Minnies.

I understand where your coming from here and appreciate it may offer help to others, however it does not inspire much confidence to anyone whos lightly browsing through the threads and who may be considering a change of brand etc.
I think i read somewhere if your interested in a car never browse the brands forums ,which may be very good advice.....:friendly wink:
Ofcourse no one wants issues or problems with their cars and the forum may provide help and advice i just wish i could check out some more positive and happy owners threads?

Sorry but if you don't want to hear any negative things then don't join a forum. I see this one being no different from any other, be it a car forum or one about tv's...

I was going to buy a c class and it was reading about all the quality and reliability issues on forums that resulted in me doing more research then deciding this was not the car for me. Some people don't mind a few unscheduled trips to the dealer to fix things but me personally, I do not so it did really help me to see the negative comments people made and there are a lot!

WhatCar or Autoexpress will tell you how good a car is but not what it's like to live with one over a long period so for this I find forums helpful.

I'm a regular on the BMW 3 forum having owned one and the wife having a 4 series and id say both that and this one are relatively balanced and helpful.

I love my A4, it's a great car but it's not perfect and not for everyone. Hopefully this forum can help educate would be buyers do they make informed decisions.

Possibly very good advice,i think i will restrict my visits here.........sometimes ignorance is bliss.
As ive said there seems to be much the same small group of members who visit and a few seem to be plagued with constant problems. It seems to paint a rather poor picture of the A4.Overall i dont think its representitive of the car at all. I find it amazing how some remarkably trivial complaint can attract such lengthy replies..... However your right, forums regardless of what they are for tend to highlight negativity rather than positive ownership.

If I sell 100 identical items to 100 people, 50 work without issue and 50 go wrong what happens on the internet?
Of the 50 that go wrong about 70-80% of those people will complain on the net.
Of the 50 that work without issue, about 10-20% (At best) will go on line and praise the item up.

Abstract but this can be applied to pretty much everything with an online forum.

And the fact that the majority of owners who post in forums do so to find a solution to a issue...

Flipping heck, I only started a post to state how much I appreciate my A4.

I'm currently in a Cupra ST 280 owner. Got my S4 Saloon coming very shortly.

They're really not in the same league. The Cupra is a fantastic car. And I only paid 27k for a highly specced car brand new. By that I mean that most options were ticked.

Yes the plastics are cheap, the build quality is below par to Audi but Seat is a VAG budget brand. If you were to buy the equivalent A4 to the Cupra in regards to spec and speed then I'm sure you're over 40k with Audi.

If you compare it to the S3 , which the Cupra is based on, with similar spec then you'll be over 35k for sure. And for a Cupra hatch you'll be nearer 25k (old generation). So a good difference in price.

I basically think you get what you pay for in this world. As long as you enjoy the car you've bought then everybody a winner. Just not to sure how relevant a Cupra ST comparison is to an A4.

Just to be clear, I simply stated "Just to put into perspective how good the A4 B9 is. Now I know comparing a fast estate to my car is a bit off but I'm talking about what you get for your money."
So yes the Cupra was a good spec (parking sensors, heated seats, led lights, sat-nav, sound system etc) but he still paid £30k+
My car (sound system, led lights, extended led interior, sat-nav, parking system, acoustic glass, etc) and was £34k. My point was what offers the same refinement etc as mine and looking across the broad range of cars on offer I'm not sure if anything can compare to the A4 in my opinion.
I was a Seat Leon owner myself for many years and I'm not trying to compare the two cars, that would be rather foolish of me.

The deals on a A4 were so good when I brought mine it convinced me to buy one over an A3 as there is more car for your money. However, as the cupra is soon to be replaced, I wouldn't have paid much more than £24k for one and there are deals on the current model for around a £6.5k discount. Its not like the cupra is ever going to be a classic as something like the focus rs is going to be.
But then choice is what's it all about and th cupra will appeal to a certain type of driver....
