What lead times are currently being quoted for A3 Saloons? Thinking of ordering one or an A4 depending on the deal, for the next March new registration. Never ordered a new car so a little unsure of the length of process?

As in March 18?
'Normal' lead times are 12 weeks saying that any Audi I've ordered have been delivered within 10weeks. However any number of factors could affect this so find out closer to when you're ready to order.
I'd say be ready to press the button late October and worst case scenario they can hold the car for a couple of weeks.
Also from memory Audi sometimes tweak spec of cars in October brochure so may as well wait for that should it happen

I ordered my saloon towards the end of January, and it was allocated a build slot which had been given at the end of December so my dealer had one in the system from then. I've just got onto a ship so probably looking to collect in 2 weeks?

As others say - it is impossible to estimate this early. I waited 32 weeks for my saloon, when they were in short supply in 2014. And dealers may have slots they can use or cars already in production that would meet your spec.
Cheers guys. Chomping at the bit to get the ball rolling! Q4 seems a good idea as I guess there could be extra movement on price. Put some feelers out via Carwow and saw some encouraging deals already.
Q4 isn't out till 2019 at the earliest

Placed my S3 saloon deposit this week and waiting for an order number and build week, only be quoted the standard 12 weeks so far, my expectation is 10-14 weeks unless the dealer hijacks one in build
Ha ha! No need to apologise as I've now actually learned there is a Q4 coming out
(As well as a Q6 &Q8.......)
My S3 Saloon order was placed on the 15th Nov 2016 - and it just landed in the UK this afternoon. I placed the order on Jan 31st '17 so they had it in the system.
