What should i do? Touch up pen? Or take her to a bodyshop?

Stonechip on lower drivers door and one behind the rear drivers side passenger window.

Considering a touch up pen but im scared of making a mess of it.

Any advice is much appreciated fellow Audi men.

Basically the same advise rings true as below.

http://www.audi-sport.net/xf/threads/misano-red-touch-up-paint.315683/

Use something like a cocktail stick or a very small artist brush to apply v small amounts at a time, allowing coats to dry in between and build up layers. I suspect the pic makes it look worse than it is in real life. Take your time and it will all but disappear, atleast to the casual observer.

Thanks for the advice. The one behind the rear window is very tiny. The one on the drivers door is worse. My only concern is rust, is there any way of telling it has began to rust? Should i need to touch in a little primer before touching in some paint? Also is a lacquer required?

I tend to mix lacquer and base coat and apply with the sharp end of a tooth Y floss thingy only as there's no cocktail sticks in the house but some principle.

When the layers have been built up I'll flat down with 3,000 grade wet and dry and then DA with a light cutting compound to bring the lacquer back up to a gloss finish.

Go really steady with the DAS 6 maybe with a 100mm pad. Also if sanding use a rubber block so you don't just sand out the paint you've applied like if you're sanding using your thumb. I've recently picked up one of these which is great for tiny imperfections or hard to reach areas :-

I have a similar chip on my bonnet and share the op's original concern, is there somewhere where I can confirm my cars colour?

Yes I've used that before it should do the trick. Maybe practice on a small inconspicuous area in the door shut also if the chip feels rough around the surface proud of the surrounding paint then I'd also flat it down before applying the touch up paint.

How long does the paint take to dry once you have dripped a small bit into the stone chip?

Well nice day today so got a chance to use the chipex kit on some of the areas afflicted by stonechips,,it's great stuff easy to apply and to remove l got great results espescially on the tiny tiny marks on the bonnet they're totally removed, the blending/pad/ cloth are awesome they remove the excess paint applied, but the polish supplied is a bit aggressive as it caused some slight swirling, removed these with some gtechniq polish, all in all £40 well spent,l must say my car will look **** hot once l have treated all the chips

I ain't got a camera that would be up to it mate, most of the stonechips l have on my car are just them tiny white ones, nothing too deep or large but trust me it's great stuff not perfect like a respray, but l reckon after l sort them, fit new rear tyres l would really get top dollar for my car, on a afternoon/early evening out, it's been 12 years since l have been in a pub lol home by 8pm l think lol

I also found the polish a bit harsh and used my own, also applied a final coat of lacquer (about £2 from eBay). Any before and after pics

Not for me but fit a 'autobra'

May prevent stone chips but kills the look of the car.

Okay it's time to tackle these stonechips. I received my brilliant red touch up from Audi. Ive filled in a few chips on my old mk4 golf but I want to do it properly this time.

What's the proper technique? I'm going to touch it up with a toothpick nice and slowly. How long should I wait in between coats? I'm thinking 3-4 coats? Should I let the base coat dry overnight and then apply the clear coat? Or apply the clear coat on the same day? once the base coat and clear coat are done I'm going to wet sand and finally polish with my DA and some megs ultimate compound?

Your always going to see a bubble of paint with touch up, the excess paint needs to be reduced, with a applicator/cloth and isopropyl alcohol, then build upon it

Would the wet sanding stage not deal with this?

Langka...

No, it's not a Norwegian swear word, it's this stuff, and it's good...
IMG 1473

Lay your choice of touch up in the chip, slightly over fill it, let it harden, and then this stuff takes it from a blob to a perfect surface in about a minute. No need for sandpaper, and zero chance of making matters worse. The worst that'll happen is you'll clean all the touch up paint out of the chip/scratch and have to start again.

It'll cost you about £18 from frosts.

Should I polish with my DA and some compound before the clear coat goes on or after?
