No clue what they are called, but whilst I love the massive boot of my A6 - it doesn't have anything to secure anything to it. My A3 and A4 had metal loops where you can attached some strings / bands to it - but that one doesn't ..

Is that something that can be retrofit ? Presume its just a matter of getting some and bolt them into the sides ?

Yea got no rails for some strange reason. Wonder if thats an S-Line thing .. can't even fold down the rear seats

Mine is an sline and I have the rails with sliding ties.

Are there any visible groves in the boot liner for rails? Just thinking if someone removed them.

nothing. Can't see under carpet either ..

05-08 reg?

I think your only option would be those screw in ties or you'll change the whole lining for the one with rails. not sure if it can be replaced for them.

Rails are screwed in to the boot

This is not my car but how it should look like.

Whole piece with the handle can be removed

All Avants had the "Luggage compartment package" but it was an option on the saloon. You would need the rails & folding cover. There should be plenty of used ones on ebay.
