If it's anything like Android auto. Once it's plugged in via USB you have to use the interface on the MMI. I disabled Audi Smartphone Interface as I don't like Android Auto, and now I can use the USB for charging and still use Bluetooth for music streaming.Been using apple car play via the USB cable but can't see to work out if you and access the phone and play music over BT or WIFI? Any ideas?

Must be same issue as assume both our cars will have the same software being 17 models.I have this problem also on my new 2017 S5 Coupe... doesn't play then unplug/plug in all works with spotify or apple music.
Yes you can, but when you plug in to the cable the settings adjust in the car and it automatically disables the Bluetooth connection until you mentally switch it back on.
Go into your media, use the left menu button and select Bluetooth.. it will ask you to turn Bluetooth on, you might have to connect your phone but then it will work. When you reconnect with a cable, it will disable again until you go back in and press the activate button again.
Good tip
Do you have the same car play connection issues?
I don't use car play.
I started to, but didn't like how if I wanted to go from the nav back to it.. you have to go to menu, scroll around to car play and then if you wanted to make a phone call you have to go back through the pretty user hostile interface. I much prefer being able to click; nav, media, tel... and end up where I want to be straight away. Plus my sound quality was appalling through car play, ruined the car.. the I tried Audi's interface and it was amazing.
My issues is because I use Spotify the functionality on car play is much better for the app. The sound is poorer though
Yeah this is weird, as the sound quality through my B&O is much better through CarPlay than over Bluetooth. But that's to be expected.
Will test it through the MMI hard wired.
Tried it earlier today and there was no noticeable sound difference. Is it quite a signifant drop in quality for you @AudiNutta ?

dont forget you get album art, and the ability to browse albums and playlists when using hard wired too! (vs BT )

Nice and easy, don't take this for exactly how to do it but it's something along these lines.
Go onto the media function, use the left tab to bring up the menu on the left and scroll down to what will show as your device connected in USB 1 / 2 wherever it is. Select that, I think it will prompt you to disable car play then. Remember, if you do that then your phone calls are no longer hard wired and you will have to go into the telephone menu, activate Bluetooth and connect the phone.
Once you've done this once, it remembers it until you go to click back on Car Play.
The Audi interface runs hoops around the Car Play. If it had a shortcut button to Car Play, it might not be so bad (without the reduction in audio quality) but otherwise using Car Play is nothing less than an inconvenience.
Must be a reason why there is a sound quality issue for some and not others. There is a slight change in volume I've noticed but the quality is exactly the same on mine. CarPlay is very handy for Spotify I find and also "Hey Siri".
For those that have the issues, which speaker package do you have? Standard, Audi Sound System or B&O?
Awesome, did this and it worked perfectly.
