Hi,

Just been giving my car and spring clean today and found a load of biscuit crumbs in the door compartments and some dust at the bottom of the compartment under the arm rest.

I tried to use my portable vacuum cleaner to suck up the dirt but the nozzle was too thick to reach the bottom of the door compartment. The compartment also narrows into a section where I can barely fit my hand to get a damp cloth down it.

The nozzle could reach the bottom of the compartment under the arm rest, but because the bottom of the compartment is made of rubber the dirt is difficult to remove.

Anyone have any cleaning tips for these particular areas?

Wrap a cloth around the handle end of a wooden spoon will get into tighter spaces than your hand.

For the hoovering, you could get a piece of tubing and tape this into the nozzle of the vacuum cleaner.

If it is one of the cordless dust buster type the problem is that the suction is pretty weak so you might still not have enough suction to lift the crumbs etc.

Stop eating biscuits in the car :whistle2:

Actually taping a bit of plastic tube works well, but I agree with the previous poster - use a proper mains cleaner.

For getting dust/crumbs off rubber I find the best thing is either the brush attachment on my dyson or if it's really tricky a thick paintbrush followed by sticky tape

For the muckies a professional deep clean is the only way .

Yes, the bottom of the centre console lifts out and you can even wash it if you are a really mucky pup :blahblah1:
I just had to pop out in the car and had a look. The bottom of the side door pockets come out as well. It's a bit of a fiddle, but straightforward really - you do need an implement though.

I have a very small crevice tool that works well. Try searching in amazon and the like.

Is that something you want known ?
:whistle2:
That my tool can reach the far flung corners -and achieve levels of satisfaction that no other can? Yeah, I reckon that's a plus. ;)

no shoes and no food is the best way

Acquired my wife's old house Dyson with full tool set, far better than any hand held/car vacuum

+1 for handheld Dyson with brush attachment & the small narrow one for the door pockets & by the seat runners. The brush part is great for the real OCD parts like around the MMI wheel & the Audi rings on the steering wheel! The rubber parts in the door pull out to wash so shouldn't be much fuss!

Agree - I use the brush part over every bit of plastic before cleaning gets in all the creases.
Car matts come out and get the full upright Dyson treatment in the house - works a charm.

Im hoping we've not heard from the OP because he's out there right now getting every last crumb even if that means using a straw and "manual suction" ;)

The handheld Dyson really is a great piece of kit. Does the whole house and the car easilly. I usually have to recharge in between but its easily worth the price. Only got it cos i convinced by other half that it was a good money saving investment! £6 or so a month on hoovering at the car wash opposed to free if we buy a Dyson! worked a charm! Obviously she's not great at Maths!

BTW, all rubber mats should have a tab to pull so they come out easily. Really simple! only one that i think doesnt come out is the one near the cig lighter (long rectangular sharped)

Great ideas guys!

I never realised the rubber bottoms could be pulled out. I'll give it a go tomorrow.

Guess the OCD in me took over

I always drive naked and any passengers also have to be naked! That way there's less chance of any contaminants entering the car...the pubes are a pain though and it can be a bit cold on the leather until the seats warm up :D
