So chaps I think my window regulator may have gone or going.

The other day I put the window down and it made a creaking/cracking noise, didn't think anything of, thought it must be muck as the cars well over due a clean. Anyway I got to work and tried to out the window up, it would go up, then drop and so on, in the end I had to pull it up.

Great I thought, left it a few days and went to try it today, the window goes up and down ok but still makes the horrid noise. Now is this the regulator or something else? Excessive muck trapped maybe?

Dani, just by your description that it just dropped would point things at the regulator, it may not be broken as such but may be loose or out of adjustment.
why not whip of the the door card and liner and have a look at things closer, I know you wont see everything, but with a torch you may get some more indicators as to what is going on in there.

Is it easy enough to take the card off? Need to do the drivers loom repair while I'm at it as the drivers speakers packed in due to broken wire.

Its very straight forward dani, just make sure you have a few spare card fixing clips , those little sods allways seem to break off when pulling the card away from the door, I bought enough for both my rear doors when I changed over the rear door glass, glad I did as most of them were a bin job afterwards....cheap as chip parts dani.

I've got the clips rob, bought some ages ago.

Did you follow a guide of some sorts?

Nope I did the fronts just ad hock , but there are several very good vids on youtube that show you all the stages involved inc removing and replacing the window reg dani, its not a a big job , and not that long winded either but the vids do show you all the bits you need to know about like what screws to remove etc.

sent you a link dani, hope that helps.

Thanks rob. Doesn't look ok bad at all, just time consuming.

So what brand do I go for, keep in mind I'm a little skint of late, so:

Audi oem £100+
Eurocarparts £45
eBay £20

Thoughts? I'm swaying towards the eurocarparts one tbh!

ECP would seem like a safe bet, you may get it even less if they have a promo code active.

Aid, I'll go with eurocarparts, they've not let me down yet.

Thanks Danny.

Anything to watch out for?

What's the quality like of the eBay one?

Quality wise just the same as the Audi one I took off mate, couldn't tell any difference.

When you have taken the top part of the door off I used old carpet layer it down as you have the slide glass out the frame to access the Alan key bolts that hold the regulator the door frame

Other than that it's a simple job took me roughly hour and a half spent most of the time chasing my lad around as he was pinching my tools haha

The joys of little ones mate, know it all too well haha.

So the clips etc looked the same as the original? Only reason I ask is a few people have said the eBay ones can be hit and miss as the parts tend to be of a lower quality, clips etc been thinner.

Yeah clips the same mate, I know what you mean I've had a couple for past cars and they haven't been up to much but this one has been the best up to now
