Hi guys! I have a Audi A3 8p CR170 2010. Just wondering if anyone has had theirs remapped? Any pros and cons with this engine? Best places to have it mapped etc?
Want a bit more power but not wanting to hurt the mpg massively
Thanks in advance!

I know it's not what you've asked but I had my 07 PD170 done a while back. It really suits the car, it should of came with that really. As for mpg I would say it was slightly better, but then you tend to boot it more so I would say it equals out

Thanks for the reply. I wonder how much the CR engine differs from the PD engine in terms of mapping potential

They map to around 200 bhp may be 210bhp depending on the engine, dyno and tuner. A lot more mid range pull and a lot nicer to drive. Usually with a remap there is little or no fuel penalty as long as you don't drive it like you stole it.
Where abouts in the country are you?. A good remap is required to make sure the DPF is kept happy and the torque delivery is smooth.

I'm from the midlands buddy, cheers for the info on mapping! Also if I had the DPF removed at the same time, how much more would it smoke, excessively bad or just a bit?

Thanks but I'm thinking some issues may start occurring soon regarding the dpf as my cars now on 118k

I have an A3 8p 170bhp remapped to 202bhp and 460nm tourque. Unreal difference! It's a five door and I beat a fiesta ST3 three door a few weeks back. Kept the dpf but deleted the EGR. DPF is fine and car is at 127k! Mpg is the same but I boot the **** out of it quite often when it's up to temp.

Thanks Sherv! Do you know if yours is the PD engine or the CR engine?

My PD is the same figures, assume the CR would be the same just smoother as it's a more refined engine

My DPF was hollowed out though by previous owner so I do get

More Smoke = More Poke lol

Does it smoke a lot without a DPF? As I would eventually like to put an aftermarket exhaust on for a deeper tone

Where did you get yours mapped if you don't mind me asking? I want a reputable company to do it for obvious reasons

I've had both PD and CR remapped (PD in a previous car). Currently have the CR 170 and power wise both feel pretty much the same but I would say my CR definitely feels like it has more low down torque making car easier to drive specially if you want a lazy drive. Cr engine is quite a bit smoother and quieter, specially in winter. My PD use to sound like a tracker in the winter. CR is pretty quiet in all weathers.

Had my CR mapped for over 25k now and no problems with the map,DPF or clutch.

I'm also getting more interested in a remap, mainly to stop me thinking about replacing the car :) Who is best near Southampton?

^ False over generous figures from Celtic's inaccurate dyno , easily caught out !

The CR140 is more accurate .

Got an APR map on my 170 and suppose to be around 206bhp but not had it on a dyno and not bothered. More interested in how it drives.
Not sure I would want 230 on a stage 1 with standard clutch and a daily work horse.

Bhp isn't the issue it's the torque , if the std is almost 260 ftlb I don't expect a 40 - 50 ftlb increase to worry the clutch , after all Stage 1 is designed to work with the current hardware .

200 - 210 bhp is realistic , 227 bhp isn't correct and would not measure that on a different dyno .

It's rich because a 170 bhp measured 188 bhp , I'm not saying every car has to be bang on but if you look through Celtic's results most are rich from stock figures , if they are rich so is the result.

What's also bad is their claimed improvements , they quote original figures and not their inflated measured originals then quote their inflated results as the difference .

Completely wrong .

mapped my own cr 170 and gutted dpf at the same time but myself left the egr in . one reason only helps get car upto temp quicker in the colder weather ,normally car doesn't smoke ,but my wife drives like miss daisy most of the time so when she does actually boot it i do get a puff of black smoke ,mainly due to the soot collecting on the turbo vanes and inside the hollowed out dpf .

I come up against this every day. I don't have the time to explain this to every person that calls and wants 230bhp from their 2.0l TDI or 380bhp from their 335D

Rick

Whats the max power you've seen achieved on a 2.0 tdi stock or heavily modified?

There is very little reason to have smoke from a diesel car if it is mapped correctly. You don't need to have smoke to get poke and it's poorly tuned cars putting out smoke trails that give diesels a bad name. Rick mapped my car and removed the DPF on the standard turbo with no smoke at all. It's a 3.0 TDI but the same rules apply when tuning the car. Even with the hybrid turbo the car is running now there is occasionally a small puff when it spools and after that it's clean. This is at GTI international last year. Not normally this much smoke as I was running the water meth and it smokes more with that.Bear in mind this is flat out and the worst that it is. Normal driving no smoke at all.

When it's up and moving no smoke at all

This is what happens when you try and get every last hp from a 2.0 TDI car. Personally I couldn't drive a car like this as a daily.

@Nath94 I am from Cannock and Ricks not that far from Manchester airport in Stockport so and easy run up there and well worth the trip.

Cheers for the info @desertstorm, that's what I want to have matey, a bit more mid range power, DPF removal and not a lot of smoke... when I see diesels pouring out smoke I just think how **** they look aha!
Does Rick have his own garage an that?

Rick has his own unit where he does the mapping but there is a unit a few doors down that does all the mechanical stuff.
