Of course I can't leave well enough alone, at some point I stumbled across door card illumination for the A3 8V. I've not been able to turn up much, however I did come across some part numbers.
First off, do any of you have or have you heard of illuminated door and/or dash inserts? These would go in place of the stock/standard aluminum door trim inserts. In looking through the parts fiche for my car, I did come across 'glass' trim inserts for the doors and corresponding LED lamp assemblies (front and rear in a saloon/sedan/limousine). I know it's a more readily option in some of the bigger cars (A7/A8) but I've not seen it in the smaller cars.
I can't recall where I found them but I also saved a couple of photos of what appears to be appropriate parts from another site that I can't recall.
Are any of you familiar with this option and know anything about retrofitting? FWIW, I have a 2015 PFL US-spec car and have already retrofitted door handle, warning, and puddle lamps.
