I've been looking for some new tyres for a few weeks now and finally made my mind up and have taken the plunge on some of the brand new Michelin Pilot Sport 4S. They are supposed to be excellent, certainly should be at £200 per tyre! They are getting fit on Tuesday so I'll be back on to let you know my impressions and how good they are on my s3!

Don't know if anyone else has had them fit yet

Not sure if these are exactly the same but if they are!!!!

Great choice of tyre. I have the the standard PS4 which are great, so the new PS4s must be amazing.

@S32B that tyre is wrong, it is the PS4s that has been ordered and I believe you can't get this new "S" tyre in 18".

Correct, 4S isn't available in 18" yet. Once I've worn these utterly garbage P Zero's out I'll be switching to PS4S.

Ahh right OK, tbh if the standard PS4's are good at £97 I don't think I'd be going double for the S ones! :)

Not sure which part of the country you are in but Malvern Tyres Gloucester / Cheltenham are doing the PS4s for £168.95. I nearly purchased 2 today. Reviews on the tyre look excellent. Audi Cheltenham could not price match as I was told they could not buy them for that price. Didn't purchase because I was able to get my puncture repaired so did not need to buy new tyres. Hope that helps. Link below:

Cheers for the link, unfortunately I'm up in wet Yorkshire. By the tim I've paid the petrol to drive I think it would largely offset the saving!

What's the rim protection like on these ps4s ?

Always had MPSS on my old Monaro and even put a set on my old A3 8P Sline.

I'm watching for a set of genuine 19" wheels to come up so can get a set, but it would be superb if Michelin expand the figment sizes of the MPS4S to include 18" wheels too.

First impressions are very good. The s3 instantly feels much more stuck to the road, although in fairness that may be as much in my head as it is the reality! I've only done around 25 miles in them so they are still wearing in.

Rim protection seems pretty good, I reckon you could easily rest a £1 coin on it

I find that the side wall on Michelin tyres seems to look higher than that of other manufacturers. Anyone else get this impression as well?

They've probably built in some extra comfort , sizes aren't adhered to .

Squarer maybe ? I think CSC5s and P Zeros have very similar rim protection but because the conti is a squarer section (more vertical sidewall) it looks more prominent on the Pirelli.

I've always been a fan of pilot sports, but I put a set of ps4s on my S3 when my original Contis wore out and they weren't as good as the tyres they replaced. I could easily induce wheel spin with the Michelins where that was very rare with the Continentals, and I could feel them understeer more easily too. Anyone else have problems?

Spoke to very trusted guy at ATS Grantham at the weekend about replacements for my 3/4-worn Contis. He suggested Michelin Crossclimates, which do seem to be getting good reviews.

I went for a pair of CrossClimate tyres on the front when mine needed replacing. They definitely are a hell of a lot more quieter and feel a lot more grippier than the Pirelli P7's that came with my car to start with.

Ps4 are great tyres on wet and dry. Ps4s can only be better than them. Great choice.

So last night in the heavy rain my Conti 5s were very noisy - going to order some PS4S's as soon as they become available on the tyres on your drive website.

I need 19s - that's a decent price. Had TOYD fit last couple of sets and they're very careful but think they only fit what they supply. No mad rush.

I put a set of Michelin Cross Climate 17s on my 2003 VW V6 4mo about a year ago. I found them to be absolutely brilliant in all conditions, especially the cold and wet. I was also genuinely amazed by how quiet they were compared to the cheap rubber that the car came with when I got it.

I sold it last month and now have a 8v 184 Quattro on Contis. Given the all-weather abilities and quietness of the Michelins I'm going to find it hard not to put a set of Cross Climates on the Audi when the Contis are worn.

Does anyone have any experience of PS4S vs CrossClim?

PS4S vs CrossClimates is like comparing apples with pears. They are targetted at different markets. With the PS4S being a summer tyre it will be far superior then but the CC will be on a different plane in the winter. As you already know!

I would say that unless you drive on the limit for a good proportion of the time, the CC is by far the better 'real world' tyre. If you go for the CC you will now have to consider the CC+ which Michelin are about to start shipping.

Could you put 265/40 R21 instead of 255/40 R21 on 21" wheels ??

I've only been here for a few days so am loathe to say this as a newbie but from past experience on other sites wouldn't you stand a better chance of getting a knowledgable answer, rather than mine, by posing the question in a more appropriate thread than this, or even in its own thread?

You could but if you are thinking of doing that with MP4S tyres be aware the the old MPSS tyre came up "larger" as they are very square in profile compared to equivalent sized tyres. So a 265 MP4S would be nearer to a 275 in most other tyres. The other thing to bear in mind is they are a performance sports tyre so it makes sense to get the best from them by fitting the correct size :)

Im not sure if cross climates are a good idea on a S3. Although they are fantastic tyres......they aren't really the first choice for a performance car tyre.

All the pilot sport series are seriously good tyres .... i may even buy PS cups this time :)
