A3 1.8T 150bhp AGU engine Mods/Upgrades

only asking that kinda money since it's been prepared for a stage 2 remap, fmic, cold air feed, ss exhaust, RS alloys which just been refurbed, private plate worth £675 and apparently already stage 1 remapped

will still put it through the rolling road on Thursday and see what kind of figures its throwing out just out of curiosity and maybe keep it another month or two

well even if you get 900 for your's you were willing to put in 300 so this is nice.

I would sell the private plate and put the original plates back on it to sell, I don't think it costs anything from the DVLA maybe £25 as you need to put the cherished plate into "transfer" - I doubt a £700 plate adds £700 to a car unless the buyer wants the number plate specifically.

you might find after a dyno and potential remap evaluation it will be worth simply updating - at least you know what you already have is in good nick.

There was an advert on ebay from November where someone had spent 2K rebuilding the car's engine and replacing the clutch then needing to sell the car for £750 for a quick sale.

I wouldn't sell it for 900 even without the plate, would rather burn it than sell it so cheap

anyway I paid 1200 for it and that was before I got the wheels resprayed, oil filter and oil change, wishbone bushes replaced, new glovebox and just about to get a full year mot on it in a few weeks, would be happy to get my money back on it which would be about 1400-1500

that Audi on eBay would've had stuff wrong with it for that money pretty much guaranteed and totally standard

That's pretty much just general maintenance that's money you don't usually get back. I've spent 2-3k on mine maintenance wise in 2 years doesn't mean the valve of my car has gone up tho

ok so decided I'm selling the a3 and getting a TT 225 bam, its in my price range and probably the best choice for the money. Anything I should look out for when buying an old TT - 2000-2003?

As far as I know the TT 225 is basically a s3 with a different shell

You will get all the same common BAM / AMK issue's as we all suffer - but with slightly less space available.
Regarding TT specific issue's.... I will ask my hairdresser. :nogarors4:

I think Mk 1 TT's are actually quite collectable at the moment. I assume it is a Quattro Coupe you are looking at - they are surprisingly cheap for a lot of car.

most people don't - normal people just sell them as scrap. hence why several people have 3 or 4 of them.

but as tcg has proven even keeping it standard they have issues. I love Ian's "not another nogaro" S3 the amount of work both maintenance and improvements he has done to his car in such a short space of time is amazing - I'm afraid my level of commitment is keeping it good enough for a 10 mile blast - my car is essentially stopping me from buying another motorbike.

I have a remapped ECU & CLOCKS For sale if you want it, pm me.. Car was remapped with an fmic and k03s. I have both of these for sale too :)

update: Decided to keep the car, recently had a problem with the gearbox, wouldn't stay in 2nd or 4th gear (bottom bottom gears) it would just jump back into neutral if i didnt hold it in gear, turned out the lower small engine cover fell into my linkages and jammed my lower gears from locking in, anyway gave me a little scare and reminded me of how much I actually like this car.

Planning to replace/check all worn hoses and seals then putting it in for a stage 2 remap, also thinking about modifying the front and rear bumper (already have aftermarket side skirts) with fibreglass and foam to make it super aggressive, anyone know someone who's tried this? Seen some videos on YouTube and looks pretty do-able and will make the car one of a kind. Also planning to make a front splitter/spoiler with 5mm abs plastic which ill cover with gloss black car wrap vinyl, let me know what you guys think, I know its alot of work but I have plenty of time on my hands and will surely feel better if you can create a one of a kind piece.

To finish the project im going to plastidip the whole car metallic black and carbon wrap the roof and maybe side trim.

Will upload pictures of progress with the bumpers and plastidip results, planning to start it within the next week or two.

Will also upload pictures of it going through a remap, such as before and after graph, torque and bhp output.

Just beat a fiesta st200 (although it had passengers) and a brand new Mercedes c200 in a 0-60 so quite pleased with how the car is running so I think it definitely has potential even with 150k on the clock.

I cancelled the dyno because I thought I was needing a new gearbox, not once did i look into the engine bay when this happend cause i thought the gearbox was gubbed, my mate ended up telling me to pop the bonnet to check the linkages and thats when we spotted the problem, its going to be dyno tested when it goes for a stage 2 remap, almost 100% sure its been remapped stage 1 already as it keeps up with or beats pretty much most cars I've raced, for example I was racing a 66 plate TT yesterday and it never went anywhere till after about 60, also beat the c200 Merc by at least a car length and was a 66 plate as well but I'm guessing it was an automatic.

And how do you know they were trying hard?
Cause you were racing don't mean they was.

Anyway with the bumper have you googled images a3 8l custom bumpers for ideas there plenty of different kits might be easier buying of the shelf

and yeah obviously I get beat now and again, got hammered two days ago by two mk5 golfs on the motorway which had tuning stickers on them and upgraded centre twin exhausts, kept up with them at beginning but they boosted to 120-140mph and quickly outran me to the point where I just gave up trying to catch up ☹

Well I was sitting next to them at lights, seen them revving waiting for them to change then we went for it, can hear him hitting high revs trying to beat me...

Lol I tried to keep up with a Revo stickered TTS the other day absolutely flat out - he was still disappearing when I gave up at 130 - I reckon they are 350BHP, he must have been 145 when I gave up.

that's the beauty of these Mexican airfields round my way.

These 1.8T engines are really good.

haven't really thought about that, was just going to add bigger injectors and replace anything that's corroded, ecotune do a engine health check before they remap so they will let me know if its wise to go ahead with it or not

not sure, haven't asked them yet or booked it in, thought bigger injectors could only be a good thing no?

Bigger injectors can be helpful as long as they can be mapped... this would require custom mapping.. if ecotune can custom map an AGU then stands a chance but you would be better off asking them first if they can do that plus iirc the ME3.8 ECU that the AGU uses is very particular about injectors meaning that you can't just use any old injectors..

ok will make sure I ask them first before I do anything with injectors, cheers tuffty

what u driving Stuart?

2001 S3 - it was Stage 1 map when I got it 18 months ago but has a 3 inch Downpipe and B5 80mm oversized tip with a Cosworth S2000 Air filter and a few other newer bits / removed bits etc - need to put on an FMIC now - I also have a generic Stage 2 Map ECU fitted so I expect it is around 265 - although the ECU has 285+ on it, its common knowledge that the S3 injectors max out before that.
I don't expect the FMIC to make any extra power just allow it to have the power for longer and protect the engine from high Air Intake Temps - I don't usually hammer it for much more than a quick blast - pretty sure its on its last legs now.

it does make a big difference if I don't manage to get V Power / Momentum and only use super unleaded, I reckon as much as 5% based on MAF readings.

2000 A3 150bp - stage 1 remap (up to 180-190bhp?), K&N Typhoon Air filter, twin 80mm exhaust, Toyosport FMIC and a boost gauge, thats all i know, only had the car a couple of months now, looks like the guy prepared it for a stage 2 but for whatever reason didn't go ahead with it.

So will bigger s3 injectors make any difference when it comes to the stage 2 remap or help the car at all with current remap? yee or nay?

I did notice a difference using the premium petrol, I've been using it for the past few days and does feel a bit better.

Have you got a K03s fitted? if not you won't get much more than 190hp anyway

If you have a K03s then can ecotune custom map an AGU with bigger injecters? if not then pointless fitting any other injector... if they can then ask them which injectors they prefer as they are not all the same and can be a complete a*se to dial in...

You won't need injectors unless you max out a K03s... if you don't have a K03s then don't even worry about it... be more concerned about your fuel pump... as they are failing all the time

As far as I know its just a ko3 but like I said away in the beginning of this post I couldn't really understand the guy who sold me it(poor english) so don't know if they upgraded the turbo to go with the rest of the parts they put on when they got it ready for a stage 2.

Don't even have the guys number anymore and i don't know his name, address or nothing otherwise I would try and find out ☹

Is there any way of checking which turbo I have installed without taking it out?
