Hi all ,

Ive recently purchased an A4 2013, after reading up online about clone keys etc its got be a little worried.

Best solution ive found so far is removing the fuse as apparently its located in the passenger fusebox and if this is deadlocked they wont be able to put the fuse back in it only worries me that the car may go into limp/diagnostic mode.

The other solution would be to add a switch into one of the wires but again i dont want the car to go into diagnostic / limp mode.

Any suggestions?

It's been discussed several times and there are quite a few differing opinions on it all. In case you're not aware, there are also security products you can buy specially to tackle this problem that can fully immobilise the car, I believe.

Im guessing the cheap and easy option ? as you say peoples opinons differ and thats why i made my own thread .

Removed the obd fuses off mine, been running with them removed for ages no issues.

Yeah, fair enough! :) Wasn't sure if you'd seen some of the other options available.
Pulling the fuses does seem very straightforward and effective (once deadlocked) - not sure why some feel it's insufficient.
If they've smashed their way in (and aren't concerned about causing further damage), presumably there's no easy way to bypass the deadlock?

A good easy cheap first line of defence, unless these nasty people come with a "powered" dongle - then its back to car gone! Next step is to fit something robust over that port, after that it is deeper protection and that costs considerably more money as you would expect.

The 2 fuses that you remove only go the pins on the OBD port and power nothing else in the car, so until you plug something in the OBD port they aren't actually doing anything. I removed them on my car
Disabling the OBD Port for Free!
If you look on the back of the fusebox cover there is a layout of the fuses with the numbers on.

Thankyou for the replys I'm just very warey with the newer stuff I'll remove the 2 fuses for a bit of peace of mind . Another question I wanted a 2nd key as the car only came with 1 to which I was told it's a dealer only jobby . Is that right ?

Sorry I just hit on the spare key.

Regarding deadlocks, makes no odds I could open the door on the a4 and then tap on to can wires to open passenger door if required. Unless your fuses are actually for the can wires then that may be a solution. By the time I've hooked onto another wire the alarm should sound.

If your local we could run some tests while you pull fuses?!

That is another thing for the OP to do now that you have mentioned it, ie reduce the alarm delay time down, or remove the delay.

Hi again. I attempted to remove the 2 fuses pictured but I have a feeling that it may be different to the picture which feva provided? As I removed both and instantly got a vehicle steering system fault come up on the dash.

On the lid I get an opposite numbering structure. Which also doesn't marry up.

As for the steering fault. With ignition on, hold steering full left lock till you hear a beep then full right lock (sure I've read that somewhere)

Thanks for the reply. Looks like I may have removed the wrong one in the black tray I'll go and try again.

No worries, even had to get the car out of the garage to take a photo

I had the steering fault when trying to fit a dash cam (after stupidly pulling random fuses), mine reset after doing that hold either side. It just needs to learn the full wheel travel again.

Just been and pulled the fuses again. No lights on dash. hopefully nobody will try and steal the car anyway but this might just make it a little bit more difficult!

Appreciate it Feva
