myAudi special destinations (POI)

Ok thanks, I need to check my version number but why, seeing as I haven't b&o I don't know...

It's not worth busting a gut for anyway. In my opinion it doesn't affect the sound that much. I've compared a number of different sources, CD, MP3 lossless FLAC, there's no wow factor with it.

Folks, I have just joined this forum having been monitoring it for months trying to get advice on the POI problem. Mine is now fixed so thanks for all your useful posts.

I bought an A4 last September with SD based MMI and tried to upload personal POIs using MyAudi. I definitely was using the correct technique, csv file, the java applet etc. All went okay until I tried to install it into the MMI and then got the same message as many people "The data is outdated or incompatible".

This then led to a lot of communication with Audi UK who, I have to say, were extremely good with their constant email and phone communication over a period of 4 months. They asked me to try various things, and eventually contacted Audi Germany who asked me to go into the 'Engineering Screen' on the MMI. (you have to press a certain combination of the Tel and Media buttons and hold for 10 seconds to access this).

Armed with the technical info from this screen, Audi Germany decided that my car needed a software update, so Audi UK booked me into my local dealer and, importantly, told the dealer exactly what to do so I wasn't fobbed off at all. The dealer had my car for a few hours yesterday and, lo and behold, it all now works perfectly!

For those who want technical info my current software version is 0159 whereas before the update it was 0113

I hope this may help some of you who are still struggling with this problem.

@Marmaduke your timing is impeccable. Mine is going on Tuesday for diagnostic tests for the same problem, I can share this with my dealer. Might save them whole lot of time.

What was the secret sequence to get to the engineer MMI menu and what version are you now running?

To get into the Engineering Menu you have to use the 2 silver switches either side of the big rotary knob! From memory I think the left hand switch was pushed forward (which on my car is for Nav/Map) and the right hand switch pulled back (for media) . If that doesn't work try them in the opposite direction. They have to be pushed simultaneously and then held for about 10 seconds.

If you mean software version as I said earlier it is now 0159

If anyone is looking for free POI files then I used this database

http://poiplaza.com/index.php?p=se

Once you have selected the type of POI database you want then you just need to click on download and then use the big Garmin .csv button

Perhaps the PocketGPSworld site is more up to date, but it is a bit risky paying the subscription unless you know everything works properly.

The POIs I downloaded from the above site and work fine through the MyAudi website. The POIs I installed are definitely comprehensive and accurate for the area around me so if you wanted to experiment without paying a subscription this may be a good place to start.

The only little tweak I did was once the Java downloader had written the files to my SD Card, before I stuck then in the car I went into the folders and found the categories file. If you open that with notepad you could change wherever you see the text 'zoom level' to max=30, That way the POIs will show up even when the MMI Map is zoomed out to 1.5 miles. I believe if you are driving fast on open roads the map automatically zooms out, so by doing this the POIs should always show up on the map. If you don't make that change the POIs will only show up if the map is zoomed in to a few hundred yards which is what it does when you are driving slowly in town.

@Marmaduke Audi UK are dealing with my problem as well. Could you let me have the name of your contact so I can put them in touch with mine, it might save a shed load of time.

Cheers,

Chris.

Anyone done this on a mac? Mine says file unrecognised???!

I've done it on a Mac but then get the dreaded 'The data is outdated or incompatible' message when I try install it into the MMI.

Well you got further than I did....wish things could be designed to be easier to use!

Thought I'd try this out this morning but looks like I have the same issue as the other folk with the SD card based MMI. Managed to get the POI's added on MyAudi and copied to an SD card using my MacBook no problem (although I did have to update the version of Java I was running first) but when I try update using the card in the car I get the MMI error.

My software version if 0148 so sounds like I need the 0159 version that @Marmaduke mentions....May contact my dealer and see what response I get....

FWIW I did a quick Google search and found a Spanish Audi forum also discussing this same issue. A quick Google translate and it seems they have the basic MMI too and are being updated to version 0159 to resolve the POI issue by their dealers.....

I was trying to add the zip file instead of the individual contents. Sent it to my a4. Lets see if it's there....thanks for replies.

Sent to car last night. The files are in the car now. Connected to home wifi to download. Used pocket gps world. Not sure if the speed cams are on the map yet tho....

Mine worked. On version 0148.

As far as I understood it if you have the "Send to Car" option available from the MyAudi website then you must have the Tech Pack MMI and not the basic MMI as I believe those of us on the basic can only do the POI transfer via an SD card. That's certainly the only option I have.

I'd also thought the 0148 software version was also only for the basic MMI as well with the Tech pack version being something like 04XX, 06XX, 09XX, etc depending on your build date. But I could be wrong there....

Have you been able to transfer any POI's using an SD card? I tried with a USB stick but was unsuccessful but can't remember what happened as it was a while ago and haven't tried since as I was now under the impression that it can only be done on cars with the built in hard drive on the tech pack.

Hi, if you see some of the previous replies above particularly from @Marmaduke you'll see that they were able to do this via an SD card only once the MMI software version was updated by Audi. This is for the basic MMI with no hard drive so it definitely works. I have the same issue and will probably look to get the car booked in with my dealer when I get round to it and can be without the car for a day for them to hopefully sort it.

I have the tech pack high. Sent by my audi. What have you all done apart from the speed cameras, and has anyone managed to change the icon, or to get some kind of alert when approaching a speed camera? I only see the cameras etc on the dash screen but not on the main screen, which I find a bit poo tbh!

No problem. Mine is November 2016 MY17 and version 0148 too. Seems like we need to get on to version 0159...

@S.line when was your car built and do you have the comfort and sound pack?

It's a my16 and has comfort and b&o sound pack.

This is beginning to unravel now. It looks like my2017 built from November, with tech pack and comfort and sound pack were shipped with firmware 0917. This firmware updated the B&O with treble, bass and subwoofer control. However it looks like they've broken the ability to load POIs through myAudi. Hence the reason that Audi are not updating cars with previous firmware loads.

Unless of course there is someone out there with 0917, tech pack and C&S pack with working POIs.

Alerting can be (sort of) enabled using "Arrival Notification"

had mine in service yesterday. they have told me that there is nothing wrong with special destinations. i have then demo'ed the issue to one of the mechanics who then asked me to bring the car in again today for fw flash.
been advised today that the update requires new sd card thats on back order.
i have collected the car and waiting for them to call me when the sd card becomes available.

i have an my17 sd based mmi with fw 0148
not really sure what they meant by saying that it requires new sd card. maybe new mmi fw requires new version of sd satnav?!
