Hi guys, quick question which is the best oil for my car?

It's a 2010 2.0 tfsi quattro with a CDNC engine, i have been on a couple of sites and some say 5w30 and some say 5w40!!

I just want to make sure I get the right one.

Thanks
Nilz

504.00 5W30 , and a gnats wisker away from being a 40 grade .

0W-30 is designed for those mickey mouse start stop engines. :cower:

Or any engine where you would like the thickness of the oil to be somewhere closer to where it needs to be when you turn the key (or press the button).

In my opinion a 0w is a no brainer over a 5w in the UK. The only thing you need to decide is 30 or 40 based on what you have done to your car, how you drive your car and where you drive your car. If you are getting the oil over 100 degrees a lot then maybe go thicker

As above the two 0W30 Shell Helix oils ECT C2 C3 and Professional AV-L are a bit thinner when you need it and still maintains the correct viscosity and excellent protection when hot .

Sitting with tongue in cheek, you could not beat "good old" Duckhams 20W-50, looked good if you like green stuff, smelt nice, if you like nice smelling stuff, and finally - it got to all the important areas of the engine within 10 minutes or so, what was not to like?

There is a "green" connection with "0" grade oils, it is based on reducing emissions and promoting economy - just what you need with a gutsy engine?

It reduces emissions because it is not like treacle when cold and a ******* to move around. Economy and performance are often linked based on efficiency.

My 450bhp V8 always gets 0w 30 and it is certainly not green doing 15mpg and at 500 quid a year tax

0W less drag will give better economy only whilst it's warming up compared to 5W.

0W30 C2 C3 is probably the highest spec 504.00 507.00 you can get , to go above and still be dpf friendly is Fuchs Titan Race Pro C3 , aimed at a niche high performance dpf good for track market , but this isn't a LongLife oil .

The only time my old B8 dropped the oil level to minimum between oil changes is when I used Shell Helix

Shell must have spent a lot of money on "corporate golf days", posh dining and "conference breaks" in Swiss alpine resorts to win the VAG approval :chuncky:

Certainly will consume more of the thinner, but if you want the eco benefit there is always the newer VW508/509 which is a 0/20 for the tfsi

I always use the same grade oil, but it was the Shell product that burnt away. Subsequent changes with Petronas were fine.

I think that you will find quite a few folk on here including me are forking out £500 a year, but my car is exceptional green - when it is tucked up in the garage out of sight connected to its C-TEK battery thingie, just waiting for an opportunity to get taken out for some ungreen fun!

Duckhams Formula Q; that takes me right back to my first car. Four litres of 20W/50, every three months or three thousand miles, whichever came first.
These youngsters with their long-life variable service intervals; they don't know they're born! :)

Anyone studied the technical spec sheet of the 0W-30 oil? Is there any "flow" difference on cold start where the ambient temperature is higher than -30C ?:readit:

Gosh you'd have to be really anal retentive to concern yourself over little matters like that
