I was hoping somebody could help us figure why my 66 S3 8V won't make any changes when using the VCDS Cable.

@dandav1985 tried to activate flaps on exhaust, horn confirmation on lock/unlock + ability to switch it on and off in the menu. But after confirming and clicking 'do it' and receiving the confirmation we turned the ignition off then back on but no changes were made.

We followed the same steps for the oil temp gauge and this worked fine.

Can anybody suggest why this might not be working?

Exhaust flaps should have worked. Acoustic alarm needs the "tone on lock" menu activating also, the activating via mmi for the acoustic alarm to work.
That's what we thought. However when putting revs on you and put your hand close, you can't feel any fumes coming from the outside exhausts.

Also we activated this function however looking in the central locking settings there is no option to activate the acoustic alarm.

Why would this be?

I would return the Flaps configuration to default, go under the car and unplug the flaps, then test again with your hand and see if there is any noticeable difference.

Is this a UK, EU or US car? Sometimes, with some codings and adaptations, what I call "coding conditions" need to be met in order to something to work. My rule of thumb is:
  • Ignition on / engine off
  • All doors closed but NOT locked
  • MMI in a menu or screen which is not related to the mod you are performing
  • For acoustic alarm:
  1. Change adaptation channel for beep on lock
  2. Change adaptation channel for book on unlock
  3. Check adaptation channel for Tone on Lock MMI Menu
  • Save
  • Exit
  • Reset MMI
Check to see if the MMI menu has popped and if not then exit the car and lock, wait 5 mins, get in car and start engine for 1 min and then check MMI again. Before doing this revert your previous changes, reset MMI, lock car, wait 5 mins and then start over.

Cool cool. My reason for asking is that most EU spec cars don't come with the Audi Alarm System from the factory unless its be spec'd as a paid option. UK and US cars will have the alarm by default.

Let us know how you get on :)
