dog bone bush best one ?

Yep, did mine today too with a red one, vibrations pretty much non-existent.

I have read that if you do the middle bolt up too tight then that can cause too much vibration as you're compressing the bush too much before it's even working on the car.

Hmm interesting. Noticed straight away....

I get a bit of a vibration on start up, but nothing I'd call annoying, more just a case of the whole thing feeling a bit tighter. Nothing on idle.

The compression bolt that goes thought the middle of the bushes should only be torqued up to 12ft-lb which isn't much at all and could be where people have issues. If you overtighten the compression bolt then you are pre-compressing the bushes and this will cause more vibrations through the car.

To be fair, I think fitting a brand new OEM bush to a 10 year old car will still highlight a few rattles.

My rattle was on fast idle as the car was warming up and the revs were over 1K

What a donut - I actually had both bush's fitted that came with my kit but apparently a few have opted to only change the 1 main bush. Maybe that's why I'm getting more than the usual rattleness from mine but it's still settling in...

Did you check the torque setting on the compression bolt? If you read across the VAGOC, LCR, MKIVs forums there are threads all over the place that discuss how incorrect torque settings are to blame for the vibration.

I fitted both bushes, no point just fitting one IMO, and the vibration is as i've said already, hardly noticeable at all.

Mine has turned up today as per the other half - Looking forward to fitting this weekend. Hope all goes well!

No I'll be getting it checked properly by a forum member on here who knows what he's doing.

Red one FTW, in fact mines been on for a while now and settled down lovely but as others have said i quite liked the vibrations when it was first fitted, dunno if that make me some sort deviant though lol

Did you fit both bushes matey?

Fair play, always worth it if you're not too sure or don't have the right tools.

Yeah I agree - am also going to get Westy to put an OEM bush back in as well so it's just one red bush like most people have. (2 currently)

Might be worth using a new OEM bush instead of sticking the old one back in if possible.

This is quite a good read actually (and guide). There are so many conflicting reports on ways to do the DB bushses, and I think a lot of it boils down to people's own opinion on what is acceptable vibration and what is not, and also what the car is used for.

dogbone pendulum mount and bushing replacement

Good point mate. Fran, phone Audi and get a new OEM bush, the old pone will be like a ****** marshmallow.

Unfortunately Audi only supply the dog mount as one assembled unit with all the bushes included and don't sell the bushes separately. It's around £80 for the whole thing. :(

Fran, I've been thinking about this and just wanted to confirm some thing. The little or smaller bush you said that had been replaced. You dont mean the one on the left (in the following pic) that goes where the bolt goes through?

If yours looks just like this then there isn't much more we can do bar check your torque settings on the nuts.

Hi buddy,

Sorry I didn't make myself clear - see the picture below:

This is what came and the both bushes in the picture (the bigger and smaller one) were fitted. I was hoping if we could swap back the smaller one for the OEM I still? Hopefully it would still make a difference as it still very harsh and raptly? (could even swap the bigger one out if you think that'll be better!) Hope that makes sense. :)

hmm... wish i had read this sooner, i have just ordered the yellow, they didnt have the red one on the s3 section. Ah well it wasnt expensive so if it doesn't settle down enough ill get the red.

Just send it back mate I done the same thing and just told them it was the wrong part!

Red all the way. More modern poly goes into making it with all the benefits and but less of the vibration disadvantages.

100 mile ish bed in period...but like anything...a week tends to be best. As said above...a great little mod.

However, I'd recommend tightening all engine bolts prior though, as i have heard and experienced loosening and shearing off of bolts in the engine bay during the initial vibration period once installed.

Over time, you will find the S3 crunches into 3rd gear at high revs due to engine movement, this mount reduces this, I certainly don't remember the last time I crunched it since having it fitted!
Does red version solve problem? Or yellow only? Thank you.

I've only ever fitted the yellow version, vibration through the steering column on idle, you'll get use to it. Red is firmer?
I don't know exatly yet if red is firmer then yellow one, because I was thinking about red should be firmer given that's for diesel engine, but reading this topic I understood yellow is firmer then red one (but I'm not so good in english, so I mistook maybe).

Is yellow firmer then red one? Isn't red one for diesel (so for more torque)? I'm asking because a seller sayed this to me, and he talk about purple and black version too.

Obviously I just said it was stiffer for fun...

Isn't red one for diesel

Yes

(so for more torque)?

No... diesel engine inherently vibrate more so they have softer mounts to soak vibrations... the red one is a stiffer 'soft' mount

I'm asking because a seller sayed this to me, and he talk about purple and black version too.

Using the power of google (you should try it some time... its liberating)

In order of stiffness from 'soft' to 'hard'

Red (note what it says about stiffness in the description)...
