So I was cleaning my S3 this morning and when I finished I thought ill check the oil and I found this!!!

Now i'm not a mechanic or know a lot about cars but I found it down here

The car has had a slight knocking sound on and off since Aug when turning so I just assumed as its a few years old its just wear and tear or bushes are going. I didn't buy it from a main dealer but Watford Audi did a minor service and MOT on it in July. Should I have a moan? I brought it for a second dealer in Dec 2015 and its been fine so I can't imagine they did it. Audi had in July then a month later this noise appears.

Why would someone need to stick that in there?

Bit big to be a bit from a nest LoL.

Now you've removed it, any sign of the engine knocking at idle? Was thinking perhaps a weak engine mount - wedge the engine and no more knocking :racer:

Had to pop out in for 10 minutes. Same knock on hard lock as before. It's weird it will make noise every day for a couple weeks and then nothing for 2 weeks. Surely Audi would of noticed this on the service or mot?

And this is why paying main dealer prices just isn't worth it!

To be fair they were cheaper for a minor service than everyone else but I'm not going back there again.

That is why I'm always doing everything on my self (as much as I can).

I stopped using them as they wouldn't use the oil I wanted to supply, yes main dealer is a good selling point however I service mine every 6 months from a local tuner so I would say that should play a big part

Used to tap wedges like that between a dynamo or alternator that was vibrating or rocking in days gone by, especially if the bolts wouldn't tighten properly. Check all your ancillaries for security....

Not really, just have a good shake of the alternator, p/s pump, air-con pump and any other bits that could rattle.

@Raiden id be concerned lol

It could be nothing to do with the engine and found its way in there somehow.

Or as said could have been wedged in to support it.

I think I'm panicking over nothing. Had a good shake of everything. The cam belt feels tight.
