I was thinking of getting an S4 but I'm a bit affraid of the fuel consumption can anybody give me a real life MPG?

I'm currently running an impreza:keule: which if driven like a vicar will give me about 300 miles out of a tank (£48.50)of asda's finest so how will this compare

thanks in advance alex:racer:

If I drove my S4 like a "vicar", i would see around 280 to the tank. (About £50, its a 60 litre tank in the AVANT) I've seen as low as 220 before, but compared to my Rs4 its nothing, rarely see over 200 on it !

I get on average 20 MPG from my 2.7Bi turbo with a mix of driving. can get up to 25 on a cruise...... normally about 220 per tank... ****** good for 300bhp plus.....

If its the later 4.2 V8 S4 then well..... just dont think about it, it will hurt too much..... your talking low teens.....

With mixed use (track days, motorways, town work, European driving holidays, etc etc) I've average 18.9 in the last two years.

This is the DIS value so really it'll be a bit less.

I reset the trip computer before driving to Good Festival of queues, sorry speed, last friday Overall including getting stuck in the horrendous traffic for about 2.5 hours (in and out) I got just over 31 mpg in my B5 S4(it was close to 35 before I hit the traffic). This was driving around 70mph. My normal average is around 20-24mpg but that is mostly a stop/start crawl into work.

By comparison I went to Duxford on Sunday with the 911sc in his new B7 A4 sline quattro (220 ps). That was returning a similar overall average although this was a completly traffic free run.

I agree with most here...

Around town (Mostly sitting in 2nd gear waiting for any break in traffic to boot it) I get between 180miles & 220 miles out of a tank. No worse than any scoob, perhaps better?

On the open road though I get upto 350 miles out of a tank. Better than I did with my 2.8quattro. In a mix of the two I also get better than the 2.8q. Its only in town driving that she suffers, but worth every penny!

This is for a 2.7T quattro by the way. I see ScoTTy replied - was this for your V8 scotty?

From my B6 S4 (V8) I used to get 18-20 mpg on the commute to work (mixed motorway, rural and town roads), on long runs I got 24-25 mpg except in France where I got 26+ mpg.

Normally meant 200-300 miles per tank, I always refill at about 1/4 full.

I recently did a 500 mile round trip to Kilmarnock and my computer said it averaged almost 29 mpg which I was pleased with as I was not hanging around.
S4 V8 '55' reg,,,,is that a B6 or B7

S4 Avant (B6) normally average bout 20 - 22mpg!
Goes down under 20 when i get carried away!
But can get 24-26 on a run (if you drive like you're drivin miss daisy!)

The 2.7T will give much better economy than the v8's... even if the 2.7T has more power... but of course the v8 is a newer dare I say nicer car.

That's exactly the same as mine.......... spooky!:)

B6 S4 Avant stock, get 260 - 280 miles on average journeys which are A roads, Motorway, drops a bit when around town or stop start on m/way. Overall average is about 22mpg. Worth it in my view as Grunt is always there, and you cannot beat the sound of a V8!

I can concur with that from Martin, and yes he does drive like a Vicar going to a sunday tea party!... Driving the S4 at 70 (i you can!) does return this.

average 23mpg in mixed motoring, i live 3 miles from work and 50% of my driving is in rush hour traffic, 40% nipping to mates or shopping on evenings and 10% motorway. i have seen 35 average driving steady on a run.
