Please could someone talk me through assigning the seat and mirror positions to each key? I've only managed to get one key assigned following what the manual says. This is what I did - some steps might be overkill!

I've got electric seats, folding mirrors with memory and the convenience key:

1) Unlocked the car with key 1, moved the seat right forward, pressed the Set button on the door, pressed "1" to assign the seat position. Locked the car with key 1. Key 2 was in the house at this point.
2) Swapped keys, unlocked with key 2, moved the seat right back, pressed Set and assigned to "2". Locked the car with key 2.
3) Unlocked the car with key 1, seat moved to position 1. Locked car again.
4) Unlocked the car with key 2, seat doesn't move at all. Manual press of setting 2 moves the seat right back, so there is definitely a different position recorded.

Am I missing something? I'm afraid I've got more questions around the whole key and memory thing, but let's start with this matter first and we'll go from there!

Have you set the 'Store setting on remote control key' Page 70 in the Owners Manual under remote key.

I did when I first started the process, but I can't remember looking at the same setting for driver's seat when I had opened the car with key 2. I'll check tonight and report back. Thanks Fozzie.

Do you have to set it for both keys? Perhaps you set it when using key 1 so that worked, but it may need setting when using key 2 as well?

Yes - turns out you do. It was unticked for the 2nd key rather than being a global setting. Still didn't work though!

I'll have a proper try again tomorrow - I gave up after five minutes stood in the street, blipping with alternate keys as I was starting to look like a pillock!

So I've had another go this morning, option definitely ticked and it just isn't working for the 2nd key.

I am also having problems with auto dip left mirror and I'm starting to think the whole memory thing is related, so I'll post in the existing mirror thread.

Might be a silly question...

Is there such a thing as a master / no.1 key and a no.2 key?

My old BMW keys were marked up as such.

Very good point. I've had a look and one key is gloss black with silver boot opener, the other is matte black with a black boot opener. I can't see any numbering though.

Has anyone else got different style keys or know the difference between the two? I'd say the gloss black one looks a bit more premium, but I've been using the other one as my main key and that's the one I managed to set the seat profile to.

The gloss one is your number one, obviously. The other one comes with the tag...

Success! Thanks everyone for the help - assigning profile 1 to the main key etc. has meant they now both move the seats to the correct position.

I also got the mirror to dip in reverse on the main key, so it's only mirror dip on spare key to solve and I'm all sorted :)

My S4 came with two identical keys, both with black boot opening buttons!
