Hi Guys, not had my S1 for long, fab car, coming from an s-tronic Mk2 TT

The clutch has an unusual characteristic. Releasing the clutch in first gear, the clutch starts to bite with little pedal movement. However after changing gear, the clutch biting point is higher which makes smooth gear changes difficult.

Is this common to the S1?

Thanks

Never had that issue.
The only issue I ever had was the clutch slipping.

When you start off, you have reached friction point and the car moves.

Once you have changed gears the bite you are refering to is when the clutch close to or fully engaging. You will not feel friction point when the car is moving.

Always fully press clutch when changing gears...

I have found that for smooth gear changes for daily driving it requires a specific rhythm, hard to explain. Just practice become a better manual driver. :p

Good advice thanks, although the S1 manual gear change is not as easy to master, compared to my previous cars
I think I will start saving for an s-tronic TTS!

Cheers

I'm glad to read I am not the only one having troubles with 'smooth gearing' & that bite. Went to my dealer, they drove the car but didn't feel or noticed anything wrong. Now reading this thread, makes me feel better :)

And yes, 1st to 2nd can be gritty slotting in place sometimes. I've also noticed during cold starts the clutch can be quite grubby as well.

Do you also have troubles with your 3rd gear ? I have the idea my 3rd is blocked sometimes when I go from 2 to 3

3rd is awesome for me. Blocked by the gate?

Although I do get 5th 99% of time, I get the rare occasion that it sits at the gate and it bounces back, probably my fault for me being too relaxed.

I had this idea too, 'I didn't push the pedal far enough down', but lately I was paying attention when I was going to 3rd gear, pushing the pedal far enough down, but it still bounces back... not always, but it happens frequenly, driving calm or fast, no diiference
