I've been looking about but have gotten myself confused by all the products available.

I don't want to spend a huge amount as it's an older car I just want to keep it looking presentable.

The car has lots of fall out and tar etc from the previous owner parking it under a tree for 7 years.

So the products I think I need for general upkeep.

Tfr type cleaner for tar and tree sap
Snow foam
Car shampoo
Polish

I already have my two buckets with grit guard
Good quality mitt and drying towel
And katcher pressure washer

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Ben

Hi Ben your on the right track. if someone else has neglected it the first thing to do is get it clean before worrying about correction for paint condition. you may be better with citrus pre wash rather than snow foam it's a little stronger and will take more crap off it's avoided on regularly waxed cars as it takes the wax off but I guess it's not well waxed now. and yes get any tar off (I use autoglym tar remover) then it might be worth clay bar or clay mitt to get rid of any embedded fall out. once you have done all of that some polishing will get the gloss back by removing fine scratches. then lastly re protect the paint with a wax. I use all sorts of makes from meguiars to poorboy. what colour and age is it.

Cool cheers. Is the poorboys a polish or a wax?

I think I might order up those few bits then spend a day with the wheels off getting all the tar brake dust dirt off etc then second day will clay mitt and polish.

Its good you're asking about waxes and polishes. That's a great start and shows you're switched on.

First thing to do is have a good look at the paint surface and consider if it might benefit from a professional polish to remove light scratches and swirls.
If the paint surface is in good condition and it doesn't need a polish then a once over with a clay bar would be of benefit to shift all the muck and crap that's built up particularly on the lower parts of the car.
Then apply a coat of good quality wax or glaze as some companies call them.

Always use a ph neutral shampoo to clean the car or you'll end up just removing all that wax you just put on. Dodo Juice Born to be Mild is a good start.

Slims is a good place to shop, plenty of choice and good advice. With 10% off your first order.

Ah cool I'll check that site out. I think it will need a polish as it's got loads of swirls light scratches and bush marks. A mate has a ds polisher he said I could borrow.

poorboys black hole is a glaze, it enhances gloss and fills fine swirls, that otherwise cloud the reflections. wax can be applied after to add protection.

Ok thanks. Will get some polish and try to remove as much as I can with the ds then can keep up the shine with the poorboys.
