Right.....

I know the S3 comes standard with some mats...

But obviously at this time of year, with all the rain and crappy weather we have rubber mats are the best choice!

But.....

I dont think they look or feel as nice as carpet mats, so I cant decide what to do!

Anyone else have the same thoughts? Or mat preference?

I have the accessory mat in with the red stripe across to go with the red vents but have put the standard as supplied mats in for the winter - not a fan of the rubber ones just doesn't seem to feel right.

If you want dirty carpets mats stick with'em.
If you don't, get the rubber for the winter

Life's really to short to worry about what looks good in the footwell of a car.

Simples

I bought the Audi rubber ones for the winter, but now leave them in all the time. They are just so easy to wash down when cleaning the car, and I don't think they look too bad.
And it's nice not having to worry about what you and other folks are bringing in to the car.
To be honest, it's only got to get one bit of clay or builders sand or something and carpet is stained for good.
Now I have a pair of lovely fresh mats to put in for really special occasions in the summer!!!

I have a set of mud mats (I think they are called )rubber mats with the raised edge all round , I keep them in when its crap outside and they catch most of the grit , wee stones snow etc , and are easy to empty and clean , keep good carpet ones for summer .

Got a set of rubber ones as part of the deal and would much rather have them in over winter than the carpet ones.

Only issue being that i don't think they do a different set for the rears on the 3 door so the ones i have are a bit too big.

Was looking for the rubber/neoprene boot liner too as i had one in me A3 but they only do crappy foam ones now, think thats gonna have to be a 3rd party purchase and i've seen one that you can get a yellow carpet insert for which will look nice :)

You need to go rubber for winter definitely! I get what you mean with the carpet looking better, I love my carpet mats. But I hated getting in the car worrying about having soaking wet feet, having to avoid patches in the work car park with the bad weather.

The rubber mats are let down by them only coming with the A3 logo, but you really don't notice it. It is such a relief being able to walk anywhere now and not worry about ruining my mats. They are superb to wash down! I just use a small detailing brush with some soap, rinse off and they are brand new again.. no staining whatsoever.

I will probably go back to carpet in the summer as I like them so much, but for winter they can't compete with the practicality of rubber mats.

Exactly the same as me!

The rubbers mats are fine...have them in all year round now and the amount of rubbish they catch and keep in the mats even in the summer make it a no brainer for me

My rears don't fit either! too big. very weird! On the boot liner issue, there are loads on eBay or even on here there was someone selling one cheap recently in the classifieds part. Its really worth it. I got the semi rigid one recently. Was offered the foam one at the dealer, it was so rubbish and flimsy that any snag and it would have just torn apart... I like mine but the only problem is that you can only use the liner when the false floor is up. if you have a large load and your not at home, then you cant put the false floor down and use the liner.. pretty bad design wise for that use but it is good when in place.

No adjustable floor for me with it being quattro so not an issue but i get what you mean from my A3 days. Seen one on carmats4u for £29.99 plus £9.98 for carpet insert so will probably grab one of them.

Why when you could get a genuine one for £5 more :rockwoot:

Edit! jumped the gun! its foam! doh!

One here:

Or keep an eye on this auction, might go cheap, depending on where you are based as it seems it collection only. but a courier would only £5-£10:

I did nearly buy rubber mats for the front of my A3 but went for cheap full set of mats on eBay for £9. they are doing the job. Not the best quality but will see me through the winter.

Just seen that Cardiff Audi eBay shop have fronts for £34 delivered:

Just an aside, rubber mats are great in the winter, but if you wear leather shoes they will make a mess of the backs of them from grit and small stones. I use lloyd mats made of ribbed nylon yarn.....no issues with staining and very easy to clean, vacuum and if needed just hose them down and they look way better than rubber.

Like @Rob2k68 I have the accessory mats with blue stripe across them, but switched over to the rubber ones a few weeks ago. They are currently pretty filthy, and I really don't like them as they look clinical and feel hard, but will serve their purpose over winter.

Edit: and another thing, the rubber ones look quite glossy when the led lights are on them at night.

I run 3D MAXPider mats in my cars year round. If it's not rain in the winter it's dust and sand in the summer and I prefer to be able to just dump my mats out and go about my business.

They're not glossy at all and the material dampens sound. Some people like to remove the logos and put their own or just close up the holes with a dab of black RTV; I don't bother.

I got a set of genuine rubber Audi mats chucked in a couple of years ago. Whilst they do a good job over winter and look good. I found that the fronts left an raise indentation line mark in the footwell carpet due to the lip on the rubber mats. Only noticed in when I put my carpet mats back in in summer. Couldn't get the mark out either.

I actually prefer the rubber mats. They look cleaner if that makes sense. And carpet mats don't look hat great after they're brand new. Unless you really keep on top of them. Which I dont
