Hi all,

I do appolgise if this has been covered before. I have looked and looked both online and other forums (including this one) but still cannot be 100% sure what Turbo Intake Pipe fits our Ko3s based turbo which is longitudinal orientated.

Ive phoned up forge and even they are confused. *Shakes head* They do have TIP's for sale but are asking me to measure the OD of my existing one. Im not technical enough to locate and do so.

Ive contacted R-Tech Tuning and Bill at Badger5 and unfortunately dont have a TIP for our engines.

This is all in the aid of gathering up parts and going Stage 2.

Please do offer up suggestions if you have one.

Dan.

Now don't shoot me down in flames as I don't know what your budget is but.... I do remember reading a post and it was regarding someone having their car mapped, the guy doing the mapping was impressed with the way the car was performing with the map, he said it was down to the turbo inlet pipe which was metal so it wouldn't collapse or even deflect/distort.

Then on searching I found this https://www.etektuning.com/evolution-racewerks-1-8t-turbo-inlet-pipe-tip-b6/

Any good?

Think I might have to grab one of these for future upgrades.

Guys, thanks for all your help thus far, appreciated.

I guess i'll have to get forge on the phone yet again haha.

Quattro Calum - No shooting down at all. Infact..this is hard pipe TIP is new to me and looks attractive! I'll probably still go for the silicone one BUT i can also imagine this particular hardpipe to have some decent gains over stock!

The reason the standard one is no good is because it's flimsy silicone and it starts off with a big intake and then whittles down to a tiny outlet, when increasing the pressure in the turbo the standard TIP collapses, meaning no air :-(
If getting a metal one, you'd still have an air restriction if the diameter decreases before it reaches the turbo.

Silicone aftermarket (forge etc) keep the same diameter throughout until the last moment when air enters the turbo, thus keeping more air flowing in :) They also re-inforce their silicone throughout so it won't collapse.

As for silicone vs metal, I'd probably go forge silicone, there's less parts (silicone hose needs 2 clips where as metal needs two silicone adapters and 4 clips) and this means less chance of a turbo boost leak (bad times)

Dan.

It's a huge shame that Bill and R-Tech don't do a TIP for the A4, they're custom build has so much attention to detail! Wonder if Bill would consider making one if there was a group buy arranged :)

Pops,

Thank A LOT for all the info! Very helpful and somehwat cleared up why you go larger bore silicone over anything else.

Yeah, its a shame both Badger5 and R-tech do not do one! I'll message Bill and ask him if he would consider such a proposition haha.

Aww ball sacks, there must be a reasonably priced quality t.i.p for the a4 b6 out there somewhere.

I know right!? Suppliers seem to have forgotten the BFB engine code :-(

Forge do/did a TIP http://www.tyresmoke.net/forum/topic/79406-forge-18t-b6-tip-install-with-pics/ , bear in mind it's a 10 year old post, but there should be some knocking around .

Edit - Just had a look on the Forge website & they list two TIP that are suitable for the A4 B6.

I'll measure the O.D of mine over the weekend Dan to clarify.

I've been led to believe the cheap £50 jobbies on eBay are pretty good, haven't bought one yet but need one urgently

Super thanks Jonni.

Yes i too have seen both Forge links and still confused. I guess the only way is to measure OD.

Appreciated, will wait for measurements.

*edit* Just spoke with USP and their above link for the B6 1.8T Forge Tip..they are insistent it will fit our cars.

I hope thats the case but ive had a few mates who have had leaks and blows from ebay ones..

I needed a TIP a few years ago when mine split, looked at at lots but had the same problem as you as to which one would fit. I emailed forge, samco and a few other companies about which one would fit the BEX engine with the K03s and got the same answer" we don't know" or "what engine, never heard of it"lol. I do remember that some TIP's have one less inlets on some engines, 6 and 7 if I remember right. Will watch this thread and see if you find one that fits and a reasonable price,I got a standard one from Audi in the end.

Yeah, story of my life at the moment WelshQuattro. All suppliers are saying the same thing although as above, the USP guys are saying adamantly that their forge one fits the longitudinal k03s turbo.

We'll get there in the end and when we do..it'll be a ****** sticky hahhah

JUst read through these posts.
Several links say 'fit B5 and B6 longditudinal engines.'
I can state that 190 BEX engines have a different pipe than B5s - don't know about other B6s, well they did back in 2004 when I bought my B6 190 Quattro T sport.

Adding more confusion then Kingfisher! (unfortunately)

I'll wait until Jonni is able to measure it and then we can all be sure. Definitely the way to go if (like me) going to tune the engine.

Sorry Dan, it was a tad cold out the weekend so I didn't venture outside :cold: ..... This weekend is looking warmer so I'll definitely get it done.

Yes Sorry !

Definitely the way to go if (like me) going to tune the engine.

Yes I think worthwhile and relatively cheap. We had a B5 QTS (180 bhp. chipped to 206bhp).
Ran almost from new chipped but it really did seem to pickup and certainly rev easier at higher revs after fitting a Forge TIP.

No Worries Jonni. Gosh it was cold last weekend. Looking at my fingers, they always seem to peel (skin) when i attempt to look at anything with my car!

Nice. Never had a TIP before so its good to know it was a no brainer for you too.

As promised Dan .... Measured the TIP OD

For some reason I pictured the TIP being a lot bigger

Thanks VERY much Jonni!!

Super. Ok, Im going to contact all the silicone Tip manufacturers and will see who makes a good one to our specification.

Will report my findings.

Ok, lil' update for everyone..

Forge Motor sports have confirmed the one they list on their website indeed fits the BFB B6. In fact all A4 B6 Longitudinal engines.

I have just bought one from them.

Link again below;

Perhaps make this as a sticky?

Thank you for all the help guys. Get buyiong i say!

:)

No wonder people get confused, on the top of the ad it states for the B5 chassis! Just to add to confusion, this part:

Please be aware that these hoses were patterned from right hand drive vehicles. Whilst we believe these to be correct for left hand drive vehicles we suggest that you visually check their suitability, as replacement items.

Now I can't think of a single reason why they would be different!

Oh gosh, that is super confusing.

Also, I cant see how a left hand drive would be any different also.
