Ordered... S4 Avant

I agree, it's nice for the fun stuff but I also like gliding along and since you have quite a lot of options regarding when you have the valves open, it does seem like a reduction in choice to have them open all the time. You want to drive in economy mode with a dynamic exhaust? Seems a bit counter-intuitive to me :)

That's what I'm thinking now.

Collected mine today, what a pain in the bum that was!

Car was in the handover bay and sheeted up for the big reveal. It looks gorgeous and Mrs C, who hasn't seen it, liked it too.

All went a bit astray when as I opened the rear doors I noticed that the storage pack we ordered hadn't been added (with 2 kids it's kind of essential) and then found a series of minor scratches on the drivers door.

If it wasn't for the fact the staff were extremely apologetic and supportive I would probably have flipped my lid- this car has been at the end of a long series of issues. The scratches were removed whilst we waited by the Bodywork guy.

I've had the first 20-30 miles but with a major case of man flu it's not going anywhere until tomorrow at least!

Gutted for you pal, sorry to hear the shine was taken off the day.
I right with you on the on the kids/ storage pack, always had it on my cars to passify my lad
As he wanted the cup holder in the rear arm rest.
On the plus side car looks awesome. Shame the dealers let them selves down.
Hope the man flu clears up soon

Congratulations on the new S4 mate. Scratches gone and I presume retro fit for storage package quite easy to do? Don't let that distract you from what is an awesome car. You've also probably banked some credit points for your next order Get better.

First of all car looks fab. Sorry to hear the handover wasn't perfect. Hopefully the dealer will get the storage pack issues sorted for you. Glad the scratches weren't a major problem.

I'm sure the man flu will soon pass.

Thanks guys, initial impressions are simply wow! The matrix headlights are fabulous, worth the cost! Overall am chuffed, just the annoying little bits to sort. Some more photos when it's not 1/2" deep in snow!

Sorry you had man flu for your big day, but I did warn you about Friday 13th... :scared2:

Did they not notice the lack of Storage Pack? Were they hoping you wouldn't notice? Same with the scratches, whoever prepared the car must have known they were there, or perhaps they were done last minute. Doesn't sound like they were very deep, if they could be removed so quickly, so hopefully gone and forgotten. Are they going to retrofit the Storage Pack for you?

Did the Storage Pack show up on the order tracker? I guess you would have checked that, so it was somehow missed out on assembly line process, hard to see how this would happen? But if they can retrofit it then I guess it could have been much worse, if they had missed something less rectifiable! I have heard stories of cars being completely the wrong colour!

This is a problem with these highly configurable German cars, if they go wrong it's near impossible to a replacement from stock with the same spec, so it's waiting for a full build process. I wonder if the manufacturers have a fast path for building cars for customers let down in someway.

Hope you enjoy your new car and are feeling better soon.

Geoff

P.S. The black leather does look lovely with the contrast stitching. Try a lumbar massage and see if it helps ease the man flu pains?

Maybe the nets but the storage compartment under the headlamp switch is probably impossible to retro fit..

That's a major part of the benfit, at least for me, along with the cup holders in the rear arm rest (and the hooks and nets in the boot). I don't actually like the nets in the back of the seats, for me they spoil the line of the seat.

The storage package extends the vehicle interior with additional storage space and compartments

Includes the following items in the car:
● Storage net on the back of the front seat backrests
● Closed storage compartment below exterior light switch on driver side
● Lockable glove box
● Cupholder in rear centre armrest

Includes the following in the luggage compartment:
● Bag hook
● 12V socket
● Nets in the recess areas, left and right
● Luggage net

Additionally includes stainless steel loading sill protector for Avant models only

Actually, looking at the spec, I'd hate to do without any of it, apart from maybe the nets on the back of the seats.

Does the standard S4 Avant spec really not include hooks in the boot, or the loading sill protector? Or a lockable glove box?

All this should really be standard on such a costly car! It's not really an "option" is it, as in who would object if it was standard?

Geoff

Surely, considering it must be an absolute nightmare for this to happen in the handover area, they must check that the spec is correct as part of the PDI?

It's not the buyer's responsibility to check anything other than the order form.

What's their plan to fix?

Overall though, the car looks great - can't wait to see more pics!

I'm waiting for Audi UK to confirm what they intend to do. I mentioned the cup holder in the rear as a major element but the rest of the pieces are important- with a baby I wanted the protector the sill so the lip doesn't get buggy dings and the rear power socket would have been used for a cool box.

I'm not happy, especially now I read that the MMI Connect app doesn't allow remote unlocking in the UK and the emergency notification in all the brochures isn't fitted to UK vehicles.

More playing tomorrow I think once the aches have subsided!!

I'm sure the dealers could replace the rear arm rest for the one that has the cup holder cartridge, I know this could be retrofitted on the B8 as you could get the cartridge separately. Thinking about it the boot scuff plate and even glove box locking should be replaceable. The other elements are more problematic. Hopefully you can reach an agreement with Audi CS to your liking....compensation, couple of free services.

Spent today driving more before heading back to the airport and off to work. I can honestly say this car is the most refined, all round superb vehicle I have driven. Despite the issues with my previous vehicle which nearly turned me away from Audi and the muck up on my storage pack order I am bowled over with the car. Topped up for the first time for just above a quarter at a cost of £45 with 161 on the clock- I imagine there was some idling time with the PDI and valeters but having come from an oil burner Q5 which cost about £65 from a similar position im happy. I don't think the 18.8mpg that this fill up suggests is accurate.

I've found, strangely, that I drive this car less aggressively than the Q5, I think it's something to do with knowing the power is there if and when I want it and i don't have to wind it up to exploit an overtake!

Hopefully hear back tomorrow from Audi, interestingly noted the boot has a 12v supply in it, i thought that was part of the storage pack so confused as to why that is there but the rest of the storage pack isn't!

I don't know for sure but possibly the Avant comes with the 12v supply as standard but the saloon doesn't?

Manufacturers have a habit of re-stating standard features with the additional pack items. You'll find a bag hook in there also, I bet.

Can those who have taken delivery confirm if the car comes with USB socket in the arm rest compartment that is 2.1 amp.

I have not opted for the wireless charging as I don't have a mobile phone with wireless, so knowing that I can charge the phone up via USB will be good.

I know I could use the 12v socket.

Thanks for you help

Shaun

The S4 I saw in the showroom had chrome door handles... is this an option?

The blue S4 pictured above has colour coded door handles anyone know what option needs to be selected?

Mostly colour coded but you can just see the chrome on top of them...

Just been looking on the Audi used car site, there's a few S4s on, can't really tell if they are body coloured or have a chrome strip. I can't imagine for one min that selecting the black pack doesn't omit the chrome strip.

The configurator seems to still show the chrome strip but there's nothing I can find one way or the other in the words.

Woo hoo - status 21! Time to get reg number off the old car, I think, so I've hopefully got the revised V5 by the time I sell it.

You can do it online now, got my reassigned V5 in 3 days and retention letter in the same. You can print the assignment certificate for the Reg to replace your private plate from the site.

Keeping it clean in this weather is a pain, especially as I'm not allowed to clean mine without doing the missus car too and I never start very early, it's always dark on a sunday night by the time I've finished.

I can get away with just doing mine. The wife's car goes to the local car wash.

I'd never manage to get the two done properly in one day.

Just been reading some old threads and wondered if any of you new owners got a 1litre oil top-up bag in the boot upon collection? Not sure if this is still a thing these days.

He looked as shocked as I did. I'm surprised we didn't both crash with the amount staring at each others cars and not the road. No-one on this forum.
