From 1 April first registration will cost you £800 and then £450 each year for the next 5 years.

Anyone had any offers from dealer to compensate for example discount off car or more for your trade in?

I asked them nicely and they paid the first year registration for me .....cost me nothing year one

This is usually built into the ROTR price anyway is it not? The showroom tax was always there before and I've never had to pay it separately so I'd expect to not pay anything extra towards it in year one, regardless.

This is something which affects cars with an RRP over £40,000, irrespective of any discount. My father has an Allroad on order which was due in February, but the dealer now said the build week has slipped and it is likey an end March delivery. If the vehicle is registered on/after 1st April 2017, then there is the first year tax (which is included in the RRP), but then each car (unless electric) pays a flat rate of £140 per year (i.e. no free tax for sub 99g/km CO2 etc). The problem is with cars costing more than £40,000 RRP, there is an additional charge based in addition to the £140 dubbed as luxury car tax. This is payable for years 2 to 6, i.e an extra £340 on top of the £140 for 5 years. A pretty huge increase in RFL!

The issue my father is having is that Audi won't guarantee the car can be registered before the 1st April (he ordered end November). As the car hasn't been built yet, it is looking likely that he will cancel the order. This was never an issue he queried about at the time of ordering as he was always aiming for a Feb delivery, with possibly delaying to 1st March for a 17 plate. The dealer also don't seem to be very knowledgeable of the new rules (unless they are playing dumb to avoid highlighting it of course!).

That sucks but there's been a few people on here saying that new vehicles can be registered as soon as the dealership is given the VIN for the incoming car. I don't know if it's true or not as I have no experience of it but it would be worth asking the dealership?

This is one of the reasons why I compromised on the spec for getting a stock car instead of a new order.
£800 first year, and £140 + £310 premium for the next 5 years is worth the consideration. First year cost is negotiable with the dealers. Also not forgetting that Audi have just put the prices up, S4 went up by about £600 on the 12th Jan.

Thanks - they have said as soon as it is assigned to them with a VIN they can register. My father isn't so worried about the actual delivery date of the car, but the dealer isn't saying they can guaranteeing it being registered within March. His dilema is at the moment the car isn't built so it can be unwound without any consequences. Once the car is built, if it is delayed, then this puts both the dealer and my father in a sticky situation ...

Is there no build date? Is there a problem with one of the options that's been selected? like no stock of something?
With an estimate delivery of Feb there would have been a confirm or estimated build week.

Did the dealer actually order the car? I had something similar with Mercedes, they never ordered the car that was meant to be here for Feb/March, now they are saying June so I jumped ship!
I agree dealers or car sales seem less clued up on the VED changes, I've had to educate a few that we spoke to.

There was an order number - and it said ordered 2nd December. But it never go assigned a build week. The dealer said the order didnt "stick" so they gave him a different order with a build week (guess they just changed the spec of a stock order). This is now allocated build week 10. I think the whole order was forgotten about and they should have queried why it didn't have a build week long before they did!

Sounds like a dealer mistake when ordering, week 10 means touch and go for new tax bracket.
I would negotiate the deal again based on the increased costs to you.
