Hi Guys,

Long time lurker here. I'm in the process of looking into getting a new S3 Saloon and have a few questions. Are Audi really looking to charge close to £400 for window tints? REALLY? Also anyone on PCP plans, do dealer put in a deposit contribution too? Window tints is a must but I feel it quite ridiculous Audi want £375 for tints. Especially when you're spending close to £40k with them.

Cheers

They charge you £350 to paint the brake calipers red. That makes tints sound like a bargain :tearsofjoy:

Dealer will put in a contribution, albeit small on a saloon. Best bet would be to go on the likes of carwow, orange wheels, drive the deal etc get a price from there so give you a rough idea of achievable discount. Think I got 11% off mine.

It is privacy glass and not tints to be fair!

I personally think 90% of tints look awful. Jagged edges, halo effect where it cant adhere to the dot matrix.
Always opt for privacy glass over standard and window tints.

As above, aim for a decent discount and that will help with the cost of options :p

If you're not confident in what you're doing just get a car wow quote and keep waving at them until they get close enough to it that you're happy.

If you don't mind me being too rude in asking -- any guys who use Experian, what was your score with them when you got accepted for the Finance? Know a friend of a friend who works with them and they say your score is irrelevant as it's only you (us) who can see it and the lender makes their decision based on the data within your credit file.

I don't have a poor credit, I've never missed any payments however my score is low and feel that may affect my chances.

I've signed up to Carwow and waiting for some quotes.

PS - I thought the S3s came with parking sensors as standard but according to the options list on Carwow it doesn't.

Correct no one else can see your score. However your score is like an average of your file. So lenders can see what your overall credit is like. If I'm honest credit isn't that much under scrutiny when it comes to car finance. As the car is the protection to the lenders money. I've known people to be accepted when they probably shouldn't have.

And yes parking sensors are not standard, and rear sensors are not cheap either at £400!

I used CarWow and a couple of other similar sites to get a starting baseline for negotiation (PCP deal on a 3-door S3). Once I had the quotes, I played the three dealers of against each other until I was left with the final best quote. I achieved about 16% off list price last September.

My finance history sounds very similar to yours and I got accepted with no problems at all :) Good luck!

Haggling with a dealer, right now the S3 or any high end Audi the discounts are getting tightened, my son's a Audi salesman over and above the Audi finance contribution if he discounts a car over £500 he only get £50 for that sale so he tends to stay clear of them sort of deals as will most. As for privacy glass it's well worth it,showroom cars or in stock cars have a larger margins for discounts over factory orders

Is this just specific to your sons dealer though? As my best mate is an Audi salesman and he still gets normal comission?. It sounds like it as AUK don't dictate pay structure to center employees?

This is across the board in the looker group, last year they sold more cars than the previous year but made less profit

It's amazing how different dealers operate. How they operate so differently. I used to work for Vindis and they have 2 dealerships 20 miles apart and 1 dealer cannot sell cars so they heavily discount and rely on quantity bonus instead of individual profit.

Thanks to you guys introducing me to Carwow I've since been offered an 8.5% discount on my specified vehicle meaning a saving of £3,500 so far. Delivery nationwide free or a nights stay in a hotel on them if I want to collect. Almost sounds too good to be true.. is it? :anguished:

Haha I bought mine with a carwow offer, although the dealer I bought from didn't offer the best discount they matched it with no hassle whatsoever so it does happen.

Don't accept their first offer. I was left with two dealerships (one via CarWow and one through coast2coastcars). When the second dealer dropped out, I went back to the first dealer, told them the other one had bettered their price and they dropped another £300!

My local dealer (Edinburgh) wasn't remotely interested in discounting. It was obvious when I saw their new car compound why not, they had no trouble shifting units and there was no imperative to hit sales targets. The final two dealers were in areas where it was a bit quieter and selling cars was clearly a challenge.

Two dealers have offered me the same best price thankfully, should I message them and tell them someone has made a better offer, would they not like to see definitive evidence of this?

Only trouble is that the two best deals are the two furthest away but as I mentioned earlier today, one has offered free delivery or a night stay for two in a hotel+spa if I want to drive it home. Don't get me wrong, I'll offer my local Audi the business first if they want to match or better the offer but if not I'll have no problem taking it elsewhere.

I managed to do it all verbally until we got down to the last price drop when the dealer we went with wanted to see the other quotation. It doesn't hurt to ask them both to go lower, if one budges then you have a difference which you can exploit.

We originally went with a dealer about 450 miles from home and they offered someone to drive it up, but they're near to my parents so we collected it at Christmas and ran it in on the drive back. If anyone was going to drive it all that way, I wasn't having someone red line it or put stone chips all over the front before I got it detailed.

Yes I was thinking that myself. If my local one can't/isn't willing to match then I'd rather have it delivered to my local Audi and if that wasn't possible then I'd kill two birds with one stone and collect it myself and do part of the run-in period with it. Only thing that puts me off doing that is that it's taking a bite size portion of my yearly mileage allowance away. (PCP)

Best bet is to go into your local dealer first and see what reception you get from them. Let them know you've got a carwow quote before you do any messing about as you know you can 100% get it for that price if you want, if they don't want to or can't match it then you've got options.

Will mention the fact I have one on first contact. I once went to test drive a Leon Cupra and presumably because I'm quite young looking even at 23, the salesman told me they do a credit check first before allowing this to happen. (Presumably to put me off).. the more I think about it, this obviously couldn't have been true. Having a credit check done reduces your score whether you pass or fail, so what if I had done it and changed my mind that I didn't like it based on how it drives?

Surely he should never have been allowed to say this.

Anyway it leads me to my next question, any of you guys test drive your S3 first? I'd be interested in having one before confirming an order.

Went for s quick test drive but to be honest it was a waste of time, only got to put my foot down for 100 yards or so.

I couldn't buy a car without driving it first. We test drove an A3 (both the CoD and the 190PS), S1 and S3. The S1 was great, but a little too small for us. I thought I would be overruled by my partner (normally a very practical person), but she got out of the S3 and said that was the one for us. How could I refuse!

That's gutting fella :( Very rare to see an S3 in the yellow, I love it but not brave enough personally!

My partner is the same, practically minded but she's not one to say no to a good kick in the seats from a good bit of power haha.

Yep, had one for 2 hours.

How'd you manage to get one for two hours?

We had a test drive and then got one for the weekend. Our dealers have done that for us every time but maybe it helps if you are a regular customer.(and older unfortunately!)

I know the business manager so sent her a message to ask if they had one that I could drive, she was on leave but arranged it for me within the space of half hour.

To DrMal. Edinburgh matched the best broker price I could find on my FL SE.
Discount wasn't massive but with the Audi £2400 contribution towards the PCP it was a good deal.

@KenL I guess there was some combination of month, model and how close they were to their sales targets that meant they wouldn't negotiate. They came close, but were about £500 short. I remember them saying that the discount I wanted was "outside their established normal parameters"!

I take it March car sales are only for existing models sitting at the dealership waiting to be sold and are not accounted for on factory orders placed at that time?

I'd already decided I wanted it before hand, was a formality and the 100 yard sprint gave me a glimpse of what's underneath.

Oh and the yellow is amazing, only a few cars lambo, Ferrari's etc exclude that it works on and this is one. Privacy glass enhances the look massively.

I got my local dealer to match coast 2 coast quote. Which was £600 less than the cheapest car wow quote. Ended up getting £5100 off a Sportback

Oh there is a great need to hit targets, Edinburgh is part of the Lookers group so no discount really over and above the Audi finance contribution at most £500 over it for a factory order

I tried to use CarWow with my two local dealers but they weren't entertaining the idea much. There was a £2200 contribution on the Hatch so they said they couldn't take much more off. I ended up test driving one for around an hour and was supposed to have an extended one before purchase. A previous customer was getting given the car as a courtesy car whilst his was having work done so it was rearranged

You don't have to go to pick your car up if using carwow etc. I used orange wheels and the car went into Crawley Audi, and delivery on single low loader to my home and pick up of my part ex was £100 for each car. Much better than letting somebody drive it up the M25 for delivery and the car was inspected three times, once as part of the dealer PDI and then by the specialist car transport firm with the final inspection by me on my drive. No problems and would do it again.

Yes that's the route I will be taking if my local Audi don't want to match my quotes so far. 9-5 the next two days and 2-10 the following two, off Monday and then 8-4 tue-sat and off again Sunday so hoping to manage down to my local one somewhere in there.

Have you tried Carfile?

This guy was very helpful and i got the best quote on my Black Edition, my local dealer had quoted me also, and was close.

I put my cards on the table, and my local dealer matched this quote as i was a regular customer, but i was willing to use Carfile if they didn't play ball.

All dealers are different though, and won't play along, so there loss.

Indeed, would be good if you could start up on your own doing one set per day @£300 ;)

Expensive I agree, but I see it as if it saves you once they have paid for themselves!
