Hello,
I have a 1.8 T Quattro Sport which is in need of more power!
Its a 2000 reg
AJL Engine code

All hints, tips & advice greatly appreciated! =]

Various issues conspire against you tuning these cars unfortunately. Most turbo cars can have nice impressive gains with little more than a quick remap and some easy boltons like filters and exhausts. Not so with this particular car.

The factory ECU cant be flashed, its chip-tune only, and very few folk have the skills for that these days. Various methods can be used to get round this with varying issues and levels of complexity, the simplest is using an A3/Golf ECU, balls-deep mode involves converting the car to ME7 management from a newer model.

The factory turbocharger wasnt changed when Audi went from the 150hp AEB engine to this 180hp model (unlike the B6 model, and the A3/Golf models) and the stock turbo only manages about 190hp or thereabouts when turned right up. A remap will improve midrange performance with a boost increase, but wont do much to help the peak power acheived. Any more than that and you will need to change the turbo. There are numerous turbo options, from the factory upgraded turbo from the B6-190ps model, thru to hybridised stock units, to complete conversions to either TFSI or aftermarket turbos.

The first thing you really need to decide on, is how much power you actually want. Then you can devise a route to achieve it. Or, i guess, alternatively, a maximum budget you'd like to spend, and then see how much you can achieve for that budget.

Is it longitudinal engine? If so the k04-023 from a tt should bolt right up to the manifold but the downpipe will need changed and I'm not sure about the tip. As the other fella says the management and loom would need swapped out for best results and could probably be done cheap enough if you're patient but would be a bit of a faff to rewire. Probably done at the factory with engine out and that would probably be the best way to redo it.

it is longitudinal, and no, the TT/S3 turbo doesnt fit, been tried before, different bolt pattern.

If you use the A3/Golf AGU ECU, no loom changes are required at all, it just plugs in, but retains the older M3.8 management.

If you choose to upgrade to ME7.5 then you need to swap the loom. Loom swap isnt too hard, and certainly doesnt need the engine out almost all goes in from above, only the starter wire is a bit awkward, its mostly just a faff. But more involved is the installation of the electronic throttle pedal etc.

pics?

Like i say, its been tried before, and it doesnt work. The transverse K04 mounting flange is specific to that platform. Its different to both the Transverse K03 and the longitudinal platforms.

Can anyone enlighten me on what the C5 1.8t Quattro is as I'm not sure about the C5 bit !

It seems you are right. I'm a bit miffed. I'm near sure that I read somewhere that the k04 bolted up to the longitudinal manifold but the measurements say otherwise. It's close though and although I haven't checked it out thoroughly it might fit with some machining. I got my old k03 hotside machined to take the k04 turbine wheel but fancied the better ar ratio of the k04.

Help!!

Basically overfilled the engine oil of my 1.8t 99 A4 by nearly 500ml drove on the highway for around 60km before the music was turned down and heard the noise, the car then proceeded to the nearest highway exit at around 100km/h upon reaching the exit the car slowly died and now will spin but not fire. I have already dumped oil and replaced spark plugs still same issue first kick sounds like it goes to fire but doesnt is this now the cat converter?

I was going to say that myself. 1/2 litre over fill isn't going to kill an engine. No fire sounds like fuel starvation or no spark. Did you do a spark test? To test for fueling simply pull out injector and hold a piece of paper or cardboard in front of it to check for flow and pattern. It's not fancy but will give you some idea.

what was the noise? Overfilling the oil shouldnt do very much.

The oil frothed and went into the crankcase and foamed.
The sound is when you initially turn the key its sounds like it spins, fires and starts.... it just spins if you can understand that like start motor or something i have changed spark plugs and re connected battery is there a way to reset computer ? I have had battery disconnected
