Hi,

I wonder if anyone can help with this issue I have noticed recently?

When throwing the car into a second gear corner it develops a flat spot before the turbo spools up again - thing is it doesn't do it every time??

Moderate to 8 tenths driving no problem, but when on it and when you need it the most, boom, acceleration vacuum.

Fuel Starvation?

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Cheers

Scan for fault codes would be the first thing to do...

...also... is the ESP light flashing while the flat spot is evident?

Yes my guess would be the esp cutting in, but when was the last time you changed the fuel filter, they tend to get overlooked around service time, it could be blocked giving starvation problems.

Thanks for the replies -

No the esp light does not come on and the filter was changed in April.

I guess I need to scan for codes.

It also goes into soft limp mode on cold mornings until I re start the engine - could it be connected?

Cheers

My bet would be a 17705 fault code on this... this is a software bug and generally coded out by most tuners that know what they are doing... it can also be related to a faulty MAF...

The fault condition normally occurs at indicated ambient temps of 5 deg or less and on cold start... cycling the ignition clears limp and the fault condition typically doesn't reoccur until next cold start under similar conditions

That sounds exactly like it mate, thank you - so I need a remap and a fault code read.

Re the flat spot - are there two fuel pumps in the tank ? As I've been analysing when it does it and it's worse 3rd of a tank or less.

CHEERS

One pump but they are known to fail... fairly common to replace them these days... validation through logging and/or fuel pressure gauge on a dyno might be worth a go...

One main pump but s3's do have the extra feed from the near side of the Quattro. Lots of people complain about running problems when less than half a tank if the fuel pump is weak.

+1 to this problem : (, fitted new tank unit and still have same issue, replaced fuel filter at the same time, car slightly down in power below half tank.

My old S3 used to do this sometimes on tight bends when trying to accelerate, once you straightened the car up it would be fine, didn't always do it though,

I just put it down to the nature of the car, my mates S3 used to do the same, never caused any other issues though.
