Hi all

I was wondering if anyone could help me .. I put a ram air induction kit on my Audi s3 8p and for some reason every now and then when I'm giving it a rag about and on top revs it feels like there no power the car is running fine just feel like it's bogging out a bit then if would flag the engine light on bare in mind doesn't happen all the time , i have had it diagnosed and it just says the engine running to lean on idle I have the code also this only started after I put the induction kit on before that it was fine but it didnt start bogging straight away ...

could any one tell me if putting an induction kit with out a remap bring the engine light on I was told a remap would sort it out but I thought I would ask any one on here if they ever had the same problem ???

Some induction kits do make your engine run lean due to incorrect sizing where the maf sits.
Which induction kit do you have and have you checked for any potential leaks after the maf.

I seem to remember that someone had a stage 1 map added to their car with the standard air box and then they added an intake afterwards. The car would not run right unless the standard box was reinstalled.
When I had my APR maps installed, various options were chosen by the installer like intake, exhaust, HPFP etc. I was told a different version of the map is added to the car to make use of the different hardware
So if you have your map adjusted it will be sorted. The Ramair system will be allowing more air into the engine than the standard airbox and so you see the lean mixture indication unless of course you have an air leak. It would pay to check your jubilee clips, especially the tricky one where the hose joins onto the turbo. It is easy to get it on twisted as you cannot see all the way round

Thanks for your help guys

yeah before the induction kit was installed it was checked for leaks twice and the car was fine before it was installed so yeah it must be where it's sucking in so much air ... I did ring up revo to get a stage 1 they wouldn't map it due to the problem i had but I said it was fine before the intake was put on and then like you guys said I would of thought they would have said yeah it would need a remap cause of how much air it sucking in the mixture would be wrong but they didn't so that's why I thought I would ask on here .... but I will check for leaks on the pipe leading to the turbo

They also did say about the stage 2 + but I wanna build up to that ... but as I said they said to me I need more hardware but can't see why they can't remap it with just the induction kit for now and il add exhaust intercooler ect at a later date cause they said it would only be an extra 50 quid to mAp it again

How about enquiringly with a different mapper like APR or a custom map?
It all depends where you are located and how far you are prepared to travel.

Yeah I could do but yeah but I live in Surrey Staines area Apr and stuff will be to far for me to travel the nearest revo for me is in Guildford Surrey

The thing is that some of the software is specific to certain hardware specs.....for instance it wouldn't be a great idea to install Stg2+ (i.e. uprated HPFP specific)software on a car that didn't have the appropriate hardware.

This is at least part of the reason behind having the various stages of software, and quite small costs for upgrading the mapping.

You're not too far from Storm Developments in Aldermaston, and they would be worth a call.

Oh yeah definitely mate I understand what your saying I wasn't gunna go stage2 + yet I only really wanna go induction kit which I've got and exhaust system and intercooler but I wanna stage 1 with induction then when I get time il add other bits and remap it again ect but I just wanna get the problem with induction kit sorted first get rid of the boggyness every now and then

But yeah il give them a call see what they say thanks Alex
