Hi all

I have recently purchased a 2.0 tfsi quattro, which has a chain on it, so just wanted to check does this involve any maintenance, are there any parts linked to it that need replacing?

The car is on 87k and had the oil consumption issues sorted at Audi when it was on 53k.

Also the last service was done at 78k, which was a full one including, plugs, all filters etc, now the car is nearly 10k along, will it just need an interim service of oil and filter?

I only do about 3-4k a year, so just wanted to check??

Thanks in advance....

Also, what are the number plates stuck on with, I have my own plates that I want to put on the car, but the ones on there currently feel like they are superglued on!!!

Not familiar with 2.0 TFSI so can't comment. Wouldn't expect any further work to be done - if Audi made the adjustments earlier in the car's history.

An interim service only includes oil and filter change. If the brake-fluid hasn't been done, then that's worth getting done every couple of years. Audi offer fixed-price brake fluid changes if you're not hand with a spanner for £59.

Regards the number-plates, it's high-tack adhesive pads. Just haul 'em off. Choose a dry day to re-affix the new ones and a hair-dryer to slightly heat-up the number-plate to get a good bond. Think 3M make decent pads.

Thanks @spartacus68 , It has had the brake fluid done as well, so it looks like it is just an oil and filter change that needs doing. Will give the plates a go once all the paperwork is back, was just a bit nervous as didnt want to end up yanking the whole grille off or something stupid like that!!

With the adhesive pads or tape on the 'plates, if you can get a length of thin nylon string, fishing line or similar behind the old plate and using a sawing motion, (similar to how they cut a bonded windscreen out) cut through the pads or tape holding the tape in place. Same technique when you debadge the rear of your car - not that I'm planting the seed of course ;)

Mine had the original bolts on the rear plate which fell apart when i touched them with a screwdriver! Adhesive pads are the way forward (providing they bond properly)

Lol, thanks, I will be debadging the car as well so don't worry.

Also another question, what is the best oil to use in the car?

Great engines which should be bullet proof after the Audi fix. Personally, I wouldn’t observe the “longlife” servicing regime for engine oil – I’d change it once per year. Timing chains are a bonus in that they are not a service item like timing belts. Timing chains and their tensioners can suffer if engine oil servicing is badly neglected.

Best oil = Fully synthetic and with the appropriate VAG approval. The UK Castrol site has an “oil finder” tool if you stick your registration in. The supplier Opie Oils are also very good.

Thanks for the replies @gary_a4_quattro , @Lavis89 and @Retroman, on the subject of oil, has anyone put a dipstick on their car, I would like to get one and measure the oil myself rather than relying on the mmi. I would just prefer to check before I set off on a journey than having to wait for the car to warm up then check and top up afterwards. I have read that you can get one but I can't seem to find the part number.

I checked on the Castrol site and it says 5w30 fully synthetic for my car so will get that just in case I need to top up. Also the car was serviced 9k ago, however the dash now displays service due, the last service was a full one, just curious why it says service due, is that just for an oil and filter change?

Sorry for all the questions

Thanks
Nilz

Dipstick part number: 06J 115 611 E
From a passat CC 2.0 so should imagine it'll fit your engine

Thanks @Lavis89 , will this dipstick defo fit, as if it does, I will get it ordered up today, can anyone else confirm please? @jdp1962

Cheers

I just called Audi and they have advised that the part number has now been superceded with 06J115611L now, so the E has changed to an L at the end.

Going to go and order it today, as reading up on other forums, it looks like this is the right one.

@jdp1962 Thanks for coming back mate, I believe this is the right one, so will go for it, costs £20 but would rather use that as piece of mind.

Another question, what fuel is everyone using on their 2.0 tfsi??

I have always used V Power on my old S3 and just went on auto pilot and filled up with that.

It's turbo'ed so should imagine v-power (or tesco 99 but let's not start that debate) would be the best for the task.

Haha, that debate will never die!!

Will stick with the V Power in that case then :)

@Lavis89 , Just picked up and fitted the dipstick, seems to be spot on, will use that now and compare it to what it says on the MMI, I just prefer to use the old tried and tested method that I have always done when coming to check oil levels.

I know exactly where you're coming from, i keep meaning to get one for mine, always handy to check before a long journey rather than having a computer tell you half way through the journey that you're low

@gary_a4_quattro I debadged the car at the weekend, was very quick and easy, the back end looks so much cleaner now for it though. I just used an old loyalty card, some soapy water, bit of t cut then polished. Job done.

Very good ! A simple job that really tidies the rear of the car up..... did you remove all badges ? ( I just left the 'quattro' badge - and the rings, of course ! )

Mine had the original bolts on the rear plate which fell apart when i touched them with a screwdriver! Adhesive pads are the way forward (providing they bond properly)

I tend to remove the original screws if they are not stainless steel and fit stainless steel ones and use coloured covers for them

Totally agree, maybe that level function should get moved to the screen wash fluid tank - and report current status each time the engine is started, I think that someone once said a horrible French car company did that sort of thing - ie issuing a status report before/at engine start. (VW Group take note!)

@gary_a4_quattro I removed all except the rings, does look very clean, especially as its a white car, im contemplating removing the s line badges from the side of the car as well, but cant make my mind up currently.

@rum4mo That would be a great idea, if the car told you the oil level whenever it was started, I just dont get why something so important has been changed, if it aint broke, then dont fix it, simple as that really.
