I changed the front tiers to the same original size 235-45-17, i feel that my car is a bit stiff although my old tiers were 8 years old. is it standard for the B7 to be a bit stiff?

but on 17" rims the ride should be a bit more compliant compared to 18" and above even with the "racey " s-line suspenders.....

ive been runing kumho for a year on fronts with no problems alought mine is a sline avant so ride quality isnt the best anyway

I just went from cheap 235/45/17 XL tyres to 235/45/17 not XL Eagle 3's.

What I'd call pattering has improved considerably. That annoying giggling sensation that makes your gut/cheeks/tits giggle going over small road imperfections is gone. The harder impacts that compress the suspension are much softer too.

How much of this is going from XL to non XL, and how much is going from cheap tyres to Eagle 3's (known for their compliant side wall) I couldn't say.

That's on a S-line saloon.

you should feel mine lowered s line with 235/35/19's on, solid in a word lol

most s-line A4's with any size rims are more like go karts due to the lets just say " firm suspension " , mine is better with different springs but still not really a smooth ride...

I will second that. I'm on 235/35/19 and even with H&R springs, the ride feels pretty harsh - although nothing like my old E46 Beemer.

Perhaps the old bus can be softened by going down to 18 rims and running a 235/40 instead.

Has anyone else tried this method?

The A3 sport I just sold had 18's and my A4 S-Line has 17's.

The A4 is like a limousine compared to the A3!

Not a direct comparison I know, but I think sidewall size and thickness makes a huge difference.

s-line is very firm, stiff is not really the best description i'd use , but tyre size/rim size does also have a big impact on B7 ride quality if using oem setup ...

What setup if not the OEM can i use to unstiffen my ride?

have a look at aftermarket damper/spring kits if you wish to go a bit softer and don't go over 18" rims as that will not help either.

I'm going for Bilstein B4's and Eibachs in the new year. This seems to be a popular choice for softening S-Line cars up a bit.

I'd try the Koni FSD's, but there are a Lot of people saying they crapped out after 5K.

I'm going near that ****** pinch bolt as infrequently as possible. :)
