RS3 Saloon or Sportback

That saloon has Ceramic front brakes on it, let's see what the European market has offered as options whenever it's launched.

Lol everytime I go into a multi story the window comes down and I hear a huge sigh from the Mrs next to me followed by a roll of the eyes and a 'hear we go everyone looking at us like we're a couple of tossers ' ha ha ha ha ha

I know the feeling...

The pre FL demonstrators had ceramic brakes too. And the TTRS demonstrator. However, we know the rest, and I've seen a photo of a TTRS in a showroom with normal brakes...

This is especially good at 5am through a tunnel close to Warsaw airport (so away from the town centre!). Much fun, unless you're the Mrs....

I'm hoping so! I was looking at an S3 today and that Virtual cockpit is awesome and really stands out. That will be on my order form for sure!!

And an RS4 is a poor mans RS6.

RS3, RS4, & RS6 all aimed at different people.
Yeah I agree. But IMO the RS3 will always be a hatch in my eyes. Same goes with the S3. That's the appeal of it for me.

I was never a fan of 5 door hatches and always swayed towards 3 door .... but I love the proportions of the sport back & think the styling is as appealing as the 3 door .... plus I love the short front doors in car parks & my garage :)

In my opinion, Audi have probably introduced the A3 saloon simply because it is about the same size as the A4 from a couple of generations ago!

Cars are constantly getting bigger and bigger. Even 'city' cars are the same size as the original Polo...

The next A4 will be a 5-metre long model...

A very conservative estimate in my eyes. Audi have missed the boat here.

Jesus yeah late 2017 is crazy !

The brand new platform will be 2018 won't it ?
Apparently so. I do hope that they release a FL SB for the guys that want one, but I really would be surprised. Doesn't make business sense to release one in my eyes, I think they'll use the Saloon's new engine to gauge reliability etc then tweak it for the new RS3 as and when that appears. I'd expect it to appear quite quickly in the lifecycle of the new platform to help them play catch up. I may be wrong but that seems logical in my eyes.

New 8W SB RS3 2018. You heard it here first.

The new A45 AMG is 2018 so I'd guess Audi will wait for that then respond. Hopefully the lack of new RS3's will keep ours well priced ready for a trade in on the new one ;)

I'd agree there. If..and it still is an if there is not a FL SB, I think prices will stay very strong on the 8V. I think it's turning into a bit of a classic.

Agree the perfect timing I'm guessing would be to get rid just before Audi announce anything on a possible replacement or FL. Either way I'd guesstimate ever all got a good few months of owning RS3's without much affecting residuals

The 8P's still command decent money though.

RVP will wait for the new model and then the facelift of course. MUST get the "current" version!

Glad I got my SB when I did. Beautifully built car, at the right price.
I have a feeling Audi won't release another RS3 SB. Like you say, it doesn't make business sense!

Apart from the fact we'd be without an RS3 SB for 3 years....and Audi like to sell cars. They also have all the parts ready in the parts bin. That sounds like business sense to me.

Don't forget though they were limited edition, I've not looked at numbers but I'd guess there are more 8v's than 8ps

I honestly think you'll only see the saloon from now on in RS3 form, for worldwide. And that's listed as available from late 2017 on the Audi website. Probably a conservative estimate going off their recent performance in releasing new models.
Parts bin, Audi selling cars... blah blah blah... still no sign of an RS3 SB anytime soon is there?

Problems with new engine and / or refrigerant on the TTRS won't help either.

For me there may, I said may be trouble ahead. The 8V power plant has been largely reliable and a bit of a peach. Audi have shuttled out the new engine, desperate to keep apace of Mercedes in the ongoing quest of engine supremacy. Time will tell but brakes might not be the only issue here.
Controversially as wel I think both the TTRS and new Saloon are two of the most underwhelming looking cars I have seen for a long time.

I'm still amazed at the huge time frame between the RS3 sportback and timescale till the 'face lift saloon' ????

The Merc A45 AMG transition was immediate ... I'm staggered at Audi having a 1.5 year gap between.

So pleased I got mine when I did as I'd have been gutted waiting this long for a face lift and would have certainly got something else.

I'm not sure if I will want a RS3 saloon as I much prefer the sportier hatch shape but hey it may grow on me .... the RS3 is my perfect car so will take a lot to drag me away from those cars now :sunglasses:

Other than an RS6, RS7, S8 or R8 of course :)

You mean the NEW version that was going to make our 8V's extinct in 2016?
Ours is the OLD version. Remember?

I can say that Sweden is not gonna be a hit here for the saloon because they are really in for hatches here but this isn't a big market for Audi so doesn't affect them. Although I think used hatches will be hot because there is no new ones coming out? I was for saloon before I bought this sp but when I compared both against each other with S3 model, hatch has more brutal sound than saloon and it was the same in a45amg vs cla - hatch had totally different feeling.

Late 2019
Yeah, sure. :)

I expect we'll see the saloon earlier than expected, at least in some markets. My dealer says they're taking RS3 Saloon orders in Jan, with deliveries 3rd quarter. And he claims the SB is coming too, possibly at the same time.

The truth is though that none of us know, and we definitely get that all the current owners truly believe it's not coming, good for you. We get that, you don't need to keep repeating yourselves every time someone posts some news or comments to the contrary.

All I know is if they bring a facelift SB I'm quite keen, it has the making of a great car -- latest Audi tech (VC, MMI, etc), new 400hp engine and a few other nice updates. If they don't release it then I'll need to buy something else.
