I've been dreaming of buying an S3 at some point in the coming years. And been complaining about the pricing as long as I've been dreaming of owning one.

In Finland, the government doesn't want us to drive cars, rather take the bus to work even if it takes 10 times longer. So all our cars are heavily taxed and the more the emissions, the more is the tax.

So decided to do some research and figured out the pricing between Finland, Germany and UK for S3 Sedan.

And here is the list, let's start with Finland

From this comparison, you can look what we have to suffer just by living in this **** country. And if we purchase the car from Germany or UK, we need to pay the difference as custom fees when we bring the car to Finland.

It just makes me sad :(

Currently I drive Opel Astra Sportswagon (Vauxhall) 1.4T 2016 and that was close to 30000 euros in Finland. Don't even want to know what it costs in Germany or UK.

But yeah, if I could buy the car with UK or Germany prices, I could then put 20000 euros for tuning it :)

For around 50000 euros, I can purchase 2014 S3 with 100000km on the meter and without any special additional equipment.

Hi Finland....to really depress you, look at the Canadian Configurator ....about 10,000GBP cheaper than the UK price!!!

You can always move to Canada....still get your winter snow in most of Canada ( Vancouver excluded )...Better summers .....Lots of really big mountains in B.C. and parts of Alberta... Good skiing, fishing and boating, you will be right at home.
Mind you, I still love going back home to Scotland for a 3-4 week holiday most years.....****** expensive though, to live there

Ha ha....Guess all the clapped out bangers are the ones doing all the speeding then?....:whistle2:

I would guess that 99% if speeding tickets are between 200€ and 3000€. Local papers usually write stories when these big "paydays" happen and there haven't been that many. For a ticket that's 100000€ or more, I'm guessing it's less than 5 tickets in the past 20 years.

I thought we were bad in Ireland, E 52,920 for base price, to add on your options which are probably dearer here anyway due to our illegal VRT tax would probably be close to your final price. That is why I drive an A3 Saloon 2.0 S Line.

Hei Suomi, kyllä autot ovat paljon kalliimpia. mutta Suomi on täydellinen paikka quattro!

I would like to inform prices from Turkey

80000 € base pack s3 ( net price 30000€)
at this above packs are 35000 €

incomes per month:
min wage is 350€ ( stuff should be worked 328 month)
teacher : 810 - 900 € ( if you are teacher you should be worked 127 month)
engineer: starting from 700 € to 2500 € ( if you are engineer you should be worked 110 month)
doctor:1300€ - ......( if you are doctor you should be worked 90 month)

also you have to pay
600 € vat each year
1,35 € fuel price

lets imagine that how we try to survival

You need to consider imports and the local taxes (e.g. VAT/import).

I live in France, basic cost of manual car is approx 50k euro (or in the UK say approx £30k).
Some manufacturers (e.g. Audi/Merc/Ford/VHall) allow you to order and buy a LHD version through their UK dealer network e.g. Audi Watford are the dealer for LHD Audi in the UK.
I bought my UK spec LHD S3 (but lights point to the right, speedo is in kmh as it has to be road legal for the market it is being exported to) for the UK price plus a 6% discount and exported it to France, OK I had to pay approx 2k euro for taxes on registration as France does not have road tax and after 2years and approx 30k KMs the car in France still has a trade in value of very nearly the value I paid for it.
For certain manufacturers you can make/save a lot of money and my next Audi/Merc will be bought in the UK and exported, the paperwork took 10mins to register it.

And just to add the UK is the most competitive premium market in the EU, it is swamped with 2-3yr old high spec quality cars (and PCP is rife) for which the EU is only just catching up, most of the EU doesn't have the money nor desire and most buy their own cars hence the much lower numbers of performance type vehicles. Other than major cities France is just full of small mainly white diesels getting thrashed everywhere.............in 2.5yrs I have seen one other S3 ! I see more in LHR car park when I fly in.

Are you not allowed to walk to Germany, buy an S3 and drive it back again?

To make you feel better look up how much one costs in Singapore. ;)

I can but I have to pay the taxes when I register the car in Finland. If the car costs 50000€ in Germany and 80000€ in Finland, taxes are 30000€ when it's registered.

Our government has been sued by the EU multiple times because of this taxing issue regarding cars and still they haven't changed a thing. Almost 20% of our governments tax money comes from car sales, yearly taxes from cars and taxes from petrol and diesel. And they raise these taxes every year. Like for petrol and diesel, tax raise for 2017 is over 0.02€/liter which doesn't sound much but when the price structure already is so that price is 80% of taxes, it's a lot.

And for the yearly taxes for cars, by average, they go up 35€/year per car.

Yay Canada! There are still crappy things about getting an Audi here though. Compare configuring the same car on audi.co.uk with audi.ca, like a 2017 S3. Your first choice in the UK will be an S3, S3 Saloon, S3 Sportback, or S3 Cabriolet. Your choice in Canada - an S3 Sedan or... an S3 Sedan.
Next you get automatic or manual choices in the UK, but only the automatic in Canada. You even get more color choices in the UK, Navarra blue is not even an option here!
Anyway, rant over. :blahblah1:

There also seems to be a lot more options available in the UK and other countries than we have here. :grumpy:

Way more options available in Europe, but the trade off is we get packaged cars with a lot of options included at a substantial price reduction to a base car and then adding the desired options.
I prefer the base car way of ordering and a case in point is the pano roof which was not on my want list but is included in the two Canadian S3 packages and the only way to get a virtual cockpit or a B&O is to go for the pricier packaged car.
That is just the way cars are marketed in North America.
In the end though, I will take the packaged cars with limited options over paying a hefty premium for a tailored car and frankly after owning two cars with DSG transmissions the fact that a manual was not available when I ordered my 2017 S3 was of no concern, as it is the best auto box I have ever used. Also, I was a dyed in the wool manual gearbox fan for many years until the DSG was introduced.

I feel your pain mate! I'm in Denmark. Import tax is insane. Just looked at the price list of S3. Not big choice here.

S3 sportback 2,0 TFSI quattro 310 hk 6-speed Manuel - DKK 648.327 (£74075)
S3 sportback 2,0 TFSI quattro 310 hk 7-speed S-tronic - DKK 681.292 (£77841)

I bought a 3 year old 2012 A3 8PA Sportback 1.6 TDI Attraction (base edition, no extras, mint condition) for DKK 194.000 (£22165).

Time to move to Sweden?

Sweden, Estonia, Latvia or Germany :)

Sweden would actually be a good option, no extra taxes on cars and better salaries than Finland and lower income taxes.

Estonia and Latvia are still past soviet union, despite they never were as communistic as most other republics of the USSR.

In Germany people speak German. I don't.

Sweden would be the easiest option for me as I need only my wish to move there (it's easy with the Danish citizenship). I knew a few families who moved there, everyone was more than happy. It's on my to-do list if my wife and I ever manage to quit EDJ.
