Hello

I have an Audi A4 Cabriolet (B7) and the radio reception (on the RNS-E) doesn’t seem great.

Some stations work perfectly, but then as I drive it a bit down the road they seem to get bad or disappear from the head unit. It doesn’t seem broken, it just doesn’t seem good. It’s as if I have an aerial, just a poor one.

Reading around the forums people say to check the connections and bits in to the boot lid.

In the boot lid I have the following (I’m UK-based, so steering wheel on right)

Left: Convertible aerial booster with 3 inputs (white, mustard, black) – 8H0 035 225 J

Middle: GPS antenna with one input (blue/pink) - 8H0 919 889 A

Right: Aerial booster with 1 input (black) - 8H0 035 225 L

Now, I don’t think the main wiring is bad because if I unplug the black plug from the left unit (8H0 035 225 J) the signal goes awful and when I plug it in it returns to normal. So it seems that the cabling is fine, and also the left unit (8H0 035 225 J) seems to work.

However, if I unplug the right unit (8H0 035 225 L) which only has a black plug, no difference is heard.

Moving the boot lid up/down makes no difference.

I’m thinking that one of these is the issue (probably a or b).

a) Nothing is wrong, it’s just a poor quality aerial because it’s in a boot lid.

b) The right hand (one black connector) booster is broken

c) The left one could be broken, but still gives reception when plugged in, just not great

d)

Oh, and VAG-COM/VCDS says “01044 control module incorrectly coded” and “02005 coding pin – 004 no signal/communication” and I have coding “0319111” which I think looks correct. I don’t think this is related.

What can I do to test things?

Should the right hand unit make a difference if plugged/unplugged?

When working correctly are the cabriolet radios any good or still poor?

Thank you
