Hi everyone. I'm back with another wonderful electrical problem post! After spending most of Friday afternoon with my mechanic friend trying to sort out the fact my rear washer didn't work, it was traced to RHS pipe being spilt , hence the RHS rear C pillar in the boot was full of water. So the pipe was fixed and popped back into place. I was awoken this morning by the alarm going off in my Avant, with a 'boot open' car diagram on the dash. The light keeps flashing even when I'm driving and the alarm will sound if the car is left. Any ideas ?

Water around the tailgate lock wiring would be my guess.

Thanks, Paul. What can I do about the water? Wait for it to dry out? Or would it have shorted something? There was a lot of water coming in through the RHS service hatch/panel.

Probably have to remove the tailgate trim & give the lock actuator & wiring a good spray with WD40 as it's a water repellent as well as a lubricant.
Trim can be a pita to get off, but this should help..

Thanks, Paul. Well, the plot thickens! I thought I'd wash down the back of the car, and grease the boot lock with WD40 and run the car around a few times to break up any muck in there (what a stupid place to put a lock - talk about muck magnet!) Long story short, the warning light's still on, but the alarm has now stopped working! If I lock the car with the key or fob, it makes no difference.

Sorry to double post, but a bit of an update on the situation, after I took the car round to my mechanic friend today. The alarm itself had stopped working altogether earlier in the week. although, the red LED in the door did start working again, when I wiggled the wiring loom that links the internal wiring to the door's loom (Must be broken - does anyone have a part number for it? - my speakers on the driver's side are intermittent, as well.....)

So, I took it to my mate who stripped the boot down and started having a look at things - no water in the boot, and no physical damage anywhere. I pointed out the microswitch on the boot handle (I think) which controls the boot open/close display on the dash, he fiddled around with it, and nothing happened! I mean, not one thing he did, brought up the open boot picture on the screen - even with the boot open! I think it's died. How hard is it to get hold of another microswitch? The boot handle's takes ages to release before you can close the boot. Would it be worth buying the whole lot? Many thanks in advance :)

I'm not sure the tailgate latch microswitch is available as a separate part. Either way, I would be inclined to purchase a complete used latch assembly, and throw the lot on.

I replaced the latch on my b7 a couple of months back. £35ish from the dealer's. I would imagine they're the same part no.

EDIT - just checked and the part no. for the latch is
4B9827505N - similar but not the same as a b7.
I'd check with your dealer or use the parts request system here before buying 2nd hand. You may find they are similar prices...

Thank for the quick response. I've found the source of the problem with the leak in the boot. The L shaped plastic connector on the washer bottle pipe is leaking, which in turn, has caused the microswitch to get wet and (I believe) has fried it. Can this be repaired or replaced? Thanks again

Replace the latch assembly, which comes with the micro switch.

From Mike's post, the latch assembly is quite inexpensive new, by Audi dealer standards.

Many thanks to both of you for the quick replies. I have uploaded a picture of my boot layout without the trim piece attached. There's a microswitch (I think!) that I have circled. What does it do? Will I need to replace it? (As I believe it got wet) And I have also circled the leaking L-shaped connector. I take it I will have to replace the wiper motor, as well? Where's the cheapest place I can get one from? (8R0955711c)

If I change the boot catch, will it help with the handle being a bit 'lazy'? (It's not fully releasing right away etc)

And my friend has fixed the split pipe by putting some pipe over the top of the old one (by about six inches in each direction of the split) and then taped over the top of it. Is there a neater way of doing the repair?) Cheers :)

EDIT: I wonder if it's worth just deleting the whole rear wash/wipe setup and capping the pipe. Can it be done? Would I struggle without it?
