What have you done to your 8V today?

Today I finally got round to finally blacking out the crash bar behind the grill after i switched it to a honeycomb style and realized how much it ruins the look leaving it silver after i refit the bumper. Happy with the change and yes the car was filthy it has been cleaned since the image

What wheel cleaner do you use out of interest? Could be that causing it if it is acidic
Only valetpro billberry, which is pretty harmless I think, no dragons breath and the such

Wish it was that simple.. The new A4/Q7 version of frameless uses LIN, A3/TT version uses RF... But the A3/TT frameless are hard to come by or very expensive, I found out the hard way buying the A4/Q7 auto dim compass version, the compass worked but auto dim didn't since it's LIN. Anyway, ended up gutting an older TT auto dim mirror and transplanted the PCB to the A4 housing, that's why you see the little green LED at the button which is not there on the A3/TT version.

Interesting setup!

Today I retrofitted a TT 8S frameless mirror (with dimming and HBA) and works perfect.. You need to run two can cables from pin 3 and 8 on the mirror to pins 7 and 17 on the can gateway. Only had to wire two cables as my car came without HBA!

Yeah no worries there, I've used that in the past and still do on some cars in the family

In that case I'd definitely get onto the retailer / manufacturer

Smells great too!

Yeah I've just sent an email off, 2 are like the picture and a third is pretty minor...was planning on getting them refurbed with a colour change, but they don't need to know that eh

Sounds like a plan

Look into the cause / details of what that actually is though too... Wouldn't want it to be something 'in the metal' that would maybe come back through after a refurbishment

Ya I know, but 8S/8V has no dimming on/off button at all and it's smaller, I had to do the modification because I have the 8W mirror already...

Emergency snow foam and jet wash not sure why I bothered editing the plate as you couldn't see it through the grime anyway ! ....

Got to keep it clean Rob, otherwise no will know they have been smoked by a Revo beast!

Very true mate. ;o)

You should have seen the state of it was absolutely minging - farm roads on way to work and the mist with gritted roads mean it'll probably look just the same by the end of the week ;o(

Good job the next mod is on the inside, a 2016 MY rear view mirror ....

After my dirrrty wheels pic on the previous page I thought I'd better whip 'em off and clean them (the wheels!). They were even more minging on the inside!

Decided after that to wang on the winter wheels and tyres I had in the garage, as those polished rims will be knackered if I drive all winter through crap like that. Old skool rimmage alert!

Naaah, that looks expensive and I'm not one for buying lotions and potions for a car. They're for driving, not polishing all week and then giving yourself a heart attack every time you spot a bit of bird poo on your hard work!

Spent the day returning my car stock as tomorrow is new car day :) Removed all the following:
  • Spacers
  • Front Splitter Wrap
  • Roof Wrap
  • GPS Wrap
  • Mirror Wraps
  • Rear Boot Spoiler
  • C-Tek Charging Port
  • PiperCross Panel Filter
  • Quattro Decals
  • Licence Plate Surrounds
  • Private Plates
  • LED Interior Lights
  • LED Footwell Lights
  • LED Door Lights
  • Dash Insert Buttons
  • Front / Rear Dash Cams
  • Dimming Rear View Mirror + Cabling
  • Rain Light and Humidity Sensor
  • Auto Light Switch
  • AMI USB Interface + Cabling
  • Flashed Engine ECU back to stock
  • Flashed MMI back to stock
  • Removed / reverted all VCDS codings and adaptations (took 4.5 hours)
...then washed the car for the last time. Note to self, don't get ill in the 2 weeks up to trade in day so that everything needs to be done the day before! :)

:)

Will be reusing the spacers, boot spoiler (once painted), c-tek port and dashcam. Not sure what I am doing with the rest just yet. Need to have a sort out in January as I have a box full of light switches, rain / light sensors, parking sensors, reverse camera kits + more. Forum will get first refusal on anything I am looking to get rid of :)

An RS3 Saloon is in my future but until the order book opens I am changing from my current 1.8TFSI to a 2.0TFSI. I normally change cars every 2 to 3 years but plan to keep this as a project / testing car.

Changed my original 2015MY interior dimming rear view mirror to the 2016MY version, have to say what an improvement the 2015MY version looks like it's made by Fisher Price in comparison!!

2015 top .....

Also the high beam assist camera is different it looks way more sophisticated on the later version so will see how it performs in the morning ....

Yes LoL but postage might be an issue I don't think you're in the U.K. ?

Is this a simple "plug and play" upgrade? Looks smart.

Yes plug and play but let me just make sure everything works on the drive to work in the morning. Is yous also auto dimming with high beam assist camera ?

Yes from the Audi parts guy - it's 16 model year I think the 17 one is completely frameless and no longer has the on/off switch for the dimming function?
