Hey all,

Taken the plunge and bought myself an S4, and I absolutely love it.
The car currently only has 2 mods on it:
  • RS4 Front Grill
  • Wheels refurbed in anthracite

I’d like to have the stage 1 remap, new intake and new exhaust at some point in it’s life, but coming from a Honda Civic Type R the cost of these parts are considerably more than they were for the Civic so it’ll take a little bit more saving.

One thing that was good on the civic forum I was a part of was it had a ‘How To’ section with guides on how to do certain tasks created by members of the forum, does something like this exist here?

I’d like to replace the number plate bulbs for bright LEDs, is there a guide for this, is it fairly simple?

Some pressed plates and supercharged badges are on the way as well.

Let me know what you think! :D

Welcome! There isn't really a shed load of mods that can be easily done on these cars unfortunately! To my knowledge @Chop. probably has the most heavily modified b8 s4 on this board so would be worth having a scan through his thread. The most common mods are in the FAQ sticky at the top of this section.

If you are planning on swapping the exhaust yourself prepare for a lot of swearing . Not a massively hard job, there's just a couple nuts that are very hard to get at on the downpipes

Welcome to ASN.

lovely looking S4 you have :)

If you are saving for a map,you may as well save a touch more & go for the pulley change too

Don't think you will get much increase in power changing the exhaust, just end up with an annoying drone! Best bang for your buck is remap and Dsg map if you have s-tronic box!

Wont get much at all, but will sounds a lot better!
Remap is without a doubt best bang for your buck as far as power goes. i was only mentioning exhaust because he said he wanted one.
I've got a milltek non-res system on my car and can't say it really suffers from any noticeable drone when cruising. My 1.8t had a custom system so i'm well schooled in how bad drone can be :p

When you're looking at intake there hasn't really been any back to back comparisons (that i know of) that test any possible gains from fitting different kits, it's mostly down to how much charger whine you can put up with and how much you're looking at spending. A few options on the market and it's reasonably easy to build your own kit as well if you're on a tight budget

Thanks for that dude, I'm looking for a lot of charger whine and I'm looking for a lot of noise out of the back. If I can build a decent kit for less that would be ideal, I'm aware intakes can only go so far (which isn't a great deal at the best of times) so if I can keep the cost down on that front it would be ideal.

I think I'll just go with a Stage 1 remap eventually, then when I fancy some more I'll start changing pulleys and stuff.

I'm 26 and I've just come from a car that on idle it was around 85dcb so noise isnt an issue for me, in fact I want more noise, it's way too quiet for my taste :D

I was 26 when i got my s4 (earlier this year) check out chops thread for his exhaust build, should imagine its a tonne cheaper than a brand name exhaust.

Any intake kit is going to increase the sound from the charger, the standard pipe contains a baffle. You should be able to make your own kit with some ebay alloy beads + silicone joiners + a cone filter. Just have to weld a nipple on to the alloy elbow. Or a custom exhaust place could probably make a stainless intake kit up. I went for the ECS carbon kit purely because it looks awesome more than anything else and im a whore for carbon fibre

hi mate welcome

nice motor i like the sound of your plans

Any open cone filter will get you a lot more supercharger noise compaired to the standard set up, i'm running the CTS intake and it screams when you ask it too

in the exhaust department i previously removed my downpipes and the drive and welded in new flexis i wouldnt recomend unless your quite handy as it was a mare !

i wouldnt say the performance increase of an exhaust is worth worrying about on its own but if your planning a remap then a filter and an exhaust would be a must in my opinion

i'm currently running a custom 2.1/4 inch cat back ( standard is just over 2inch ) with an xpipe, short straight through rear boxes and none rez downpipes the sound is amazing but dont think about chatting to anyone on a long journey as the noise between 2-3k is brutal

Thankfully a mate of mine has a 2 post lift, i would have hated doing my exhaust on a drive. The downpipe bolts are an absolute mare to get to! We had to cut a spanner down to around 1" long and tap it with a punch because access was so restricted

Awesome, could you link me the group? I search for that very group and I get about 10 different results come up haha

If you can get the scorpion for a good price it might be worth it (think they retail at around 1200) it will be disappointingly quiet if you're coming from a civic though. I've got a non res milltek and i think it's quiet as far as aftermarket exhausts go (my ears thank me when I'm driving 2-300 miles at a time)

I had a Milltek Non-Res on my civic but I also had a racing manifold and no cat so it was extremely loud. Although something with a nice grumble would be nice.

It's mental how different the prices are for some pipework. £500 new for the civic and £1500 for the S4!

Is the scorpion a good sounding system? I've only seen the vid from scorpion themselves and they used a terrible camera so it sounds horrid.

The Scorpion is said to be very good and from free on the motorway (not that that will bother you haha)

Thanks for that dude, I'll give it some consideration.

I'm probably sounding like an utter noob here, but how do I go around getting the latest maps / software updates for the S4?

I watched the video too and it is truly awful.

Might be worth checking out BCS and their back box replacements. Sound pretty good!

Sorry I meant the video was awful for the record

It depends on the MMI you have I think

I found a forum post on a different site with all the info, gonna take roughly 2.5 hours when you're sat there with the engine running, metal.

I'm waiting to here back from a member here about an air intake and a black front badge, going for the stealth look :)

the scorpion is generally considered the quietest of the aftermarket exhausts, but does seem to be completely free from motorway drone. If you're hunting for noise then a custom exhaust is probably your best bet, the middle silencer seems to do the majority of the actual silencing on these systems

Aftermarket parts prices on these cars are pretty mental, i'm guessing they dont plan on moving a whole load of units so have to jack up the price to make up for development costs.

TBF when you buy an exhaust for the S4 it's like buying 2 4 pot exhausts

Most of the exhausts on the market drone at 2300rpm that happens to be 70mph.

I tested the majority of them looking for no drone, scorpion red power. Drone free.

They are a joy to own and mod, you chose the right car. Loved every moment of ownership. Get some Eibach pros on it.

Start reading Performance Audi if you do not already, lots of tips and inspiration in there.

Yeah he wanted a little too much money for it so I couldn't afford it.

I have bought the custom intake off Ross27 though that he made for himself before he sold the car, that's arriving today but won't be able to get it fitted til next week due to work commitments.
