I purchased the cable and loaded the disc that came with it. I also download vites light but when i connect it up it says i need to do a scan and save first. When i try and select usb it says no file found and if i try the com 1,2 or 3 its says port ok but still wont connect. Ill put up some pictures i took of the information on screen.
 
I'd say it's drivers related issue.

Do you have any yellow exclamation marks under Device Manager while cable is connected?
 
Yes the cable was only £10 of that popular selling site. I will uninstall it of computer and download from this link. Thanks for the help and ill post up how i get on.

So a update on how it has went. I uninstalled the programs on my computer and then downloaded vcds-lite from the above link. Now its not doing anything if i do a scan it just comes up saying comm status retrying wait and counts down a few seconds and nothing happens. I dont no what im doing wrong or could it be the lead i got? I have some screen shots i took see if they mean anything to anyone. Plus is there a way to turn the service light of?
 
VCDS has a nice little anti-piracy trick in that if you try to use genuine software with a clone / fake cable it will update and brick the chip in said cable so it can no longer be used.
 
Try it on another car.You may have an issue with your car.
