Hi peeps,

Has anyone managed to get a bike rack on the rear of their S3 at all? Trying to find one that might fit.

Car is a 3 door hatch S3 2013 model.

Looking for a 2 or 3 bike carrier.

Don't have roof rails so I'm guessing roof mounted is not a retro fit option?

Cheers

Roof mounted racks are a) better, and b) readily available.

Thule do very good ones. I particularly recommend the aero bars and the proride 591's, three of which will fit on an A3.

Thanks. Can I fit roof mounted to my S3 if it doesn't have the silver roof rails? I.e. It was not built with any roof rail support?

Yes. The rail-less cars still have rack attachment points. See the Thule website for details and part numbers to fit your car, then a) hit eBay and the rest of the net to buy them, or b) go to Halfords, but prepare to get your pants pulled down on the price. (Having said that though, if you wait for the January sales you'all get a decent price from then too.)

Ah thanks that's good to know. Didn't realise they could fit without factory mounts.

I will have a shop around. Guess it means leaving the rails on the car all the time otherwise fitting rails and rack and bike each time would become a pain lol

Thank you

Saris bones is ok. Spoiler though makes it difficult. Roof mounted ? After multiple accidents with height restrictions I can't take the risk anymore.. as a additional negative lifting a filthy mountain bike onto a roof rack when you're cold and tired and accidentally dropping it onto the roof causing a dent is the biggest negative for me. That's why I use the wife's ix35 as the heavy lifter...

I looked around a few months ago for a bike rack and had to go with a Thule roof rack. I already have a rear rack and tried to fit it. The top spoiler on the boot was really flimsy and looking like any pressure would snap it off. After a bit of research and calling Audi dealers, i realised its a no go. Audi told me they dont advise it. Thule roof rack was around £250 all in. Its a very simple and easy roof rack to fit. Putting it together took around 30mins but after that it takes less than a minute to put on the car. I have the same as GSB's photo above. :)
