Good evening,

I got an AJL marked top on my APY S3 99mod, can anyone give me some input on this top? Any benefits or downsides on having this top?
Cant say Ive seen anyone else have this top on S3?

It was built with forged internals and franken f23 turbo setup.

My car is crashed but if insurance say yes to fix it I want to toss the hybrid and buy some 400-450hp setup, something like this http://www.uspmotorsports.com/Audi-...-Elim.-Hardware-Kit-TT-225-Quattro-400HP.html so what would be the best top for a turbo like that?

You won't get 400-450 from that... eliminators are rubbish..

AJL is a large port head IIRC... all 20v heads are more or less interchangeable... I have an AEB head on mine

Oh they are :/ But they are garret yeh? ... Hmm was only looking at this because it was a direct fit... super scary to change manifolds or upwards turbo with crazzy MOT rules these days.

So no real pros or cons for the AJL? They are mostly the same all codes?

You would get better results from a hybrid than an eliminator...

20v heads are more or less all the same... its the valves and springs you may have issues with going forward...

But getting 400 from a hybrid I would need meth? Got the franken f23 hybrid now but its boring as shait to be honest

GT3076r then...

<tuffty/>
Any recommended manifolds for that? Which keeps the turbo "hidden" like oem if you know what i mean.
I see from my turbo shop in norway i can get the gt3076r in a wiiiide amount of different options, Tial vband, T4/T3 - split or open in, T04, T25, K24/K23, different A/R (which i know nada about to be honest). https://turbofun.no/performance/turbo/turboer-og-deler/turbo-garrett-bb/garrett-gt3076r.html

Thats why I liked the eliminator because it was direct fit... but if it is not worth the effort meh... But you might HAVE to do some custom work when going big breather?

The GT3076r I was on about is a billet version from Bill... they seem to be doing the job well... Bill recently did a build for a member on here...

I have not seen an eliminator kit that 'performs' to a level that would make me want to use it over going down the route I have...

As for OEM... there will be some work you need to put in to get it to look OEM overall (I assume you are aware of my build :) ) but if you look at the engine bay pic in the link above you will see thats as good as top mount can get you without doing custom fabrication of the exhaust manifold...

Fitting a GT3076 properly will involve custom work... water lines and oil lines will need sorting... there are other things you will need to consider for reliability too... ARP bolts, supertech valves etc...

v-band is the way to go if doing it at all but this level of work is always quite involved...

PagParts do an underslung v-band manifold but its not suitable for a transversed engined quattro and having done this myself with a T3 PagParts mani its not something I would consider again or recommend...

Superkarl has used a 'side' mount manifold with his GTX2867... its a compromise to be fair and he would get more from using a top mount tubular manifold and external gate... a GT3076 probably won't fit though being a bigger framed turbo sadly...

400hp or more will take a little more effort these days on the 8L.... my install is about as OE as you can get (IMO) so maybe work back from there :)

Thanks for input tufty :)

I see I have alot to put my brain into.

I would need valves and springs for my top, a good racing clutch kit with alu flywheel?, what about the gearbox, diff etc when going for bigger HP?

This could also be something (or with a garret turbo) but IE prices are a big boom:

http://www.performancebyie.com/borgwarner-efr-6258-turbo-440-hp

And I see Bill got a turbular topmount mani aswell? http://badger5.biz/epages/3927bc2c-...-4739-96a5-d6cca869fcd6/Products/EXMAN18t-1.5

But I do NOT want to **** around with external wastegate extra exhaust piping, the downpipe itself is satans work it self...

And been thinking a lot about doing a piggy back lately as well, maxxecu or link, as thats what most tuners are used too around here, mainly for easy tuning and getting rid of MAF.

This is what it looks like with borg warner EFR 7163 from member MartinRagnhildstveit on here, looks as OEM as I would be satisfied with, when covers are on:

Ideally a full supertech for ultimate reliability but you can get away with supertech exhaust valves and cat gold springs at that power level

Seriously dude... read my thread!!... I use a std DMF and clutch cover with a sachs 4 puck paddle plate... handles my power no problem..

Gearbox will deal with the power but they can fail on certain points mostly dependant on how your abuse it... launching with sticky tyres inthe dry with 400ftlbs torque will break most things... there is an 02M gearbox thread in the FAQs..

Diff is subjective... would certainly help if you are track orientated but I don't struggle for grip on decent tyres and open diffs...

And I see Bill got a turbular topmount mani aswell?

Yes he has... this may be a little too large (1.5" nominal bore) for a GT3076 and Bill can supply a 1.25" nb manifold...

But I do NOT want to **** around with external wastegate extra exhaust piping, the downpipe itself is satans work it self...

Internal gated turbos on 400+ hp are a massive compromise... external wastegate is much better over this power level... downpipes are easy and the stuff Bill supplies from Nortech also have downpipes etc for external gates

ME7 will easily do the job but if you don't have the tuners that know it then you gotta do what you gotta do...

Then a top mount GT3076 on a Nortech manifold will be fine

I know of a Nortech manifold, 44mm gate and full exhaust system for sale in next two weeks

Would be lovely but a little too soon, need to sort out this first :rage:

Anyways, is this the manifold you are talking about?
http://www.nortechperformance.com/1-8t-top-mount-v-band-turbo-manifold/

And what is the difference on these flanges? What is tial fex.. if all are vband flanges why different names?
  • TIAL GT28/30/35
  • GARRETT GT30/35
  • GARRETT GT28

And the reason I feel nervous over external wastegate is how the hell do you fit another pipe trough here?? :wtf:

You don't is the simple answer...

...I don't have a CAT so the first option is probably more what you need
