It has been asked a number of times before as to the amount of data that using Connect Services consumes. I've had my A3 since August 2014 and I have kept exact records of what I've used. I should say that I have Google Earth continuously connected for map background but you have to remember that the system caches downloaded map data so unless you are constantly travelling to new places it doesn't use as much as one would imagine. My passengers connect their phones to the wi-fi hotspot when in the car. I never use Twitter and only rarely connect to online news, weather etc.

I initially bought a 12 month/12GB data SIM from Three but since then have bought 3 month/3GB or 12 month/12GB depending on the best deal.

With those parameters my usage has been (all in MB):

27/12/14 to 30/12/15 - sent data 1260; received data 3110, total per month 364
30/12/15 to 24/3/16 - sent data 793; received data 863, total per month 552
[no figures for 24/3 to 30/4 because I was abroad]
30/4/16 to 2/8/16 - sent data 249; received data 655, total per month 301
2/8/16 to 9/11/16 - sent data 336; received data 1460, total per month 598

I hope the above helps anyone who is unsure about the amount of data they are likely to use. As you can see, for me it is between 300 and 600MB per month so the 12GB Three SIM is good value at about £24 from 7 Day Shop, making data costs around £2 per month whether I use the full amount or not.

Good info fella thanks.
Not something I'd have a clue about so at least this'll help when my car arrives soon.

It really depends on how much data people are going to use on their phones when connected to the in-car wi-fi. My kids would have their tablets connected and would be downloading apps left, right and centre. I'm pretty sure they'd eat up that 12GB in no time :(

Of course but my figures were simply to give a guide as to what I use. I can imagine that if you tried it would be easy to get through 12GB!
